http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2011/07/obama-in-perilous-shape.html

For the first time since last July Barack Obama does not lead Mitt Romney in PPP's monthly national poll on the 2012 Presidential race. Romney has now pulled into a tie with the President at 45%.

-In the Obama/Romney head to head 21% of undecideds approve of Obama and 61% disapprove. If you allocate them based on their approval/disapprove of Obama, Romney would lead 52-48.

Horrendous oversampling of Democrats as usual but that's part for the course for them.

Here's the paradox for Romney:

He's polling the strongest against Obama but as Obama slips he does so also against other Republicans.  Allocating undecideds by their approval of Obama also leaves him ahead of Bachmann only by 2, within the margin of error.   As Romney moves into a better position to beat Obama, his electability argument simultaneously becomes weaker as more conservative alternatives also move into a better position to beat Obama.

I'm wondering if Romney is really a strong candidate or because of his low name rec and profile his numbers are essentialy those of a Generic Republican.

As I have noticed in several states for both republican and Democratic Governors alike, budgeting in tough times with polarized politics is possible only with the sacrifice of such popularity as one has.  Little brings out more acrimony. Mitt Romney has kept his mouth shut.

PPP does not weigh partisan affiliation, there is no oversampling.

So what do you call it if a PPP poll has too many voters belonging to one side?
