Survey Methods

Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted July 20-24, 2011, on the Gallup Daily tracking survey, with a random sample of 1,088 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

For results based on the total sample of Republicans, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points.

Tim Pawlenty: 7% -> 6% -> 4%

I think Pawlenty's campaign goal is to bring as many candidates into the race before Iowa so that every candidate ends up with about 5-10% before Iowa and then in his ultimate strike before the caucuses he releases the most epic blockbuster campaign ad of the century and he wins the Iowa caucuses with 11% of the vote.

I think his strategy is people will realize how super cool he really is, before the Iowa Caucuses.

"Sarah Palin: Conservative 11 Liberal/Moderate 14"

....am I the only one who sees this as a LITTLE bit odd?

In the scenario where everyone runs, Perry does much better in the South than any other region:

If only the announced candidates run, then Romney leads in every region:

I wonder if Perry extends his lead in the South, or if Bachmann catches up, if Palin doesn't run.

These polls seem rather meaningless to me unless they're conducted on the state level.

Subbing pro-choice Rudy for Palin barely changes the poll at all.
