When he get's to the tax debate he would do well to remember Mark 12:17.

It's easy enough to make the case the other direction.  Since everything belongs to God (the Psalmist says "The Earth is the Lord and all it holds") then, in fact, "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and render unto God the things that are God's" becomes "Give nothing to Caesar and everything to God" coded in such an obscure way that the Romans don't pick up on the message.

That's a tricky interpretation considering the context of the whole passage:

Read that again.  Does Jesus answer the question?  Is he recognizing that the coin is Caesar's?  He uses his fancy wordplay to get out of a statement that would screw him over (don't pay your taxes) or make him very unpopular (pay your taxes) by giving a tricky non-answer that leaves his actual position unstated.

Give back to Ceasar what is his due is my interpretation from reading the text.  Which means that only pay taxes which are just. So he embraces kook type tax protestors.  That's my little interpretation, and  I am sticking with it.  I never trusted Christ's politics much really.  He seemed like a risky scheme.  Smiley

Perhaps He's not.  But Perry would do OK in the apocalypse:

This reminds me, what is jmfcst's opinion of Rick Perry?

Him being our resident Republican Texan, after all.

He never hit the man's radar screen, because jmfcst does not watch the local news.

This past weekend I asked my wife, who does watch local news on the little tv in the kitchen, what her impression was of him, and she said the same thing:  he's been basically invisible the last 11+ years.

and even though I didnt watch local news in the 90's, W made news as governor - W was always trying new things to make things better and was very popular.  but Perry has been basically irrelevant.

side note:  why are you disrespecting my moniker?
