This country has had its own "Robocop" for years: Ray Mallon. If they want somebody with proven track record on British soil, somebody who was working class himself, then I don't see that there is any question.

And yes, I do think that Lancet was a political vendetta against the man.

I agree.  I think you call in people with expertise in a given situation even if their problem was much worse. It wouldn't make sense to call for a gangs expert from Luxembourg...
NYPD has worked with British law enforcement for a long time and they were particularly called on for terrorism consults given long history of dealing with IRA bombings.
