APOEL just barely get through thanks to a goal in the final minutes. Pretty dramatic. Munich and Villareal get through as well.

Eleven minutes into the first half of extra time, Racing Genk (i.e. my team) still is leading Maccabi Haifa 2-1. (Other leg was 2-1 as well)

Penalty shoot out! Nothing better for those of us that are neutral!  Smiley

Lol, I'd noticed last night that that game was going into overtime, read the 4-1 followed by some letters in brackets in the paper this morning, and totally missed the point that they meant "penalty shootout" rather than "after overtime".

Arsenal are through. Too bad for Udinese. Lyon and Benfica advance as well. Can't wait for tomorrow's draw.  Smiley

Draw time! Hoping for Chelsea or Porto in Napoli's group.

Lol, they draw a team from the first pot then they draw a group for it. Looks needlessly complicated.

EDIT: Ah, I see why that is now.

Bayern against Villareal and ManCity. Good. That gives us hope to get rid of the bastards early.
And Leverkusen get Valencia and Chelsea. Ouch.

EDIT: YES! And Napoli with Bayern as well. Phil, I'm so rooting for your club.

Eh, whatever. At least we're not in that Barcelona-AC Milan group. Of course, the biggest gripe I have with this group is that my favorite player plays for Villareal. He better finally sign with Napoli...

In other news...

Inter, Manchester United and Porto caught big breaks. AC Milan and Barca are lucky in that they are guaranteed qualification for the Round of 16.

Group D is probably a smaller Group of Death. While Group A is the real one, I think it's fair to say that Bayern Munich and Manchester City are more favored (the former being more of a favorite than the latter obviously). At the very least, it will be fun to watch.

Too bad that Sturm Graz lost to BATE yesterday.

They would have played Barcelona and Inter Mailand. I would certainly have gone to Graz to watch this.

But the other good news is that my home team Salzburg has won today and will be in the group stage of the Europa League.

That reminds me of one of the idiot commentators on FOX Soccer Channel last night saying how great it was for Austrian Soccer to see a team advancing to the Champions League Group stage...while they were showing highlights of BATE beating Sturm Graz. And people wonder why I don't appreciate Soccer "culture" here...

Back to league news...

La Liga reaches an agreement so no strike in Spain. Meanwhile, a strike in Italy looks "probable."   Sad

I'm very happy we got AC Milan.

We are going to eat Ibra alive.

Well done to Shamrock Rovers, with the help of a fantastic volley the other night they're first Irish club side to make the group stage of a European competition.
