11 October 1492
"¡Tierra! ¡Tierra!" came shouting down from the lookout of the Santa Maria. Ever since birds had been spotted a couple days earlier, the crew had been expecting this, but it was still good to hear, altho each wished it had been he who had made the sighting and thus claimed the promised reward of 10,000 maravedis for doing so.

It had been late in the day when land had been spotted, so it wasn't until the morning of the next day that the Admiral of the Ocean Sea was able to set foot on the island he named San Salvador, not caring what the natives called it.  As it turned out, he need not have worried, as the island proved to be uninhabited.  The birds of the island, proved to have no fear of man, so the ships were able to reprovision with fresh meat and eggs, but it was clear that they would need to sail on to reach China and the Indies.

This was no mere island they were nearing, but obviously the mainland. Even if it was not the shore of China they were off of, they should at last be able to find someone who could point them in the right direction.  The small islands they had passed earlier had been uninhabited, but surely this land would be.

The Pinta ran aground this day, and no amount of effort was able to get it loose.  Maybe if they'd had more men, they could have gotten it loose, but they didn't have any more, and there were no Indians around to help.

11 January 1493
Three month after spotting land, the Admiral of the Ocean Sea decided to return home.  Clearly a second expedition would be needed to locate the people of these lands.  While he had no gold or silver for their majesties, he did have some things that had never been seen before in Europe, including a pair of falcons larger than eagles that he intended to present to Their Catholic Majesties upon his return.

Cool, but please continue some of the timelines that you've already got going too. I'm really eager to see your Lincoln tl.
