RIP. A honest and straight talking man who even though I didn't agree with on many of his policies, stayed true to his convictions. Although he passed away before having a better shot at being PM, he will always be remembered as the man who led his party to official opposition status for the first time in Canadian history. My condolences go out to his friends and family.

Has anyone heard if Olivia Chow is doing ok? I can't imagine how difficult it would be for her right now and serving in parliament without him.

Apparently she is being very strong about it.  They had a great relationship. I once read that hey had only fought once in their entire marriage.

What Jack Layton achieved in his short lifetime puts so many of our own lives to shame. The fact that he could accomplish so much, even while facing the crushing adversity of a battle with cancer, and do it all with a smile and an irrepressible spirit, ought to inspire every person around the globe to greater courage, compassion and hope.

Rest in peace, Jack. Condolences from America.

Jack is the first NDP leader to die in my life time, I was born a few months after Tommy Douglas died. How's that for a fact, the first NDP leader ever was the last one to die.

Well, as we say in French: Ce sont toujours les meilleurs qui partent les premiers.

Has anybody here seen my old friend Jack?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone.
