Ian Capstick said yesterday on P&P that Dewar is also one of the favourites. I will support the hometown boy first, but Tommy on the final ballot if it's just those three.

Charlie doesn't seem to wanna run, no matter how much I bug him. Sad

I want Leslie to run! Smiley Especially since Mulcair vs. Topp might get ugly and personal. I want her to get more exposure!

Megan Leslie doesn't have the institutional support and is too inexperienced. Next cycle she'll be ready, and one of the few Dipper MPs I like.

On frontrunners: When has an NDP race ever been ugly and personal? This isn't a Liberal leadership race where cracks at your opponent's mother (looking at you, Bob Rae) are fair game.

Never, and I hope it will stay like that, but, ambitions will be harsher since stakes are higher.

According to "L'Actualité", Saganash won't run and he will endorse Topp.

Ugh.

That's 2 - 0 Québec MPs supporting Topp over Mulcair, yes?

Why should Saganash run? You think a man who rose to prominence in Indian tribal politics is going to win you those Saskatchewan seats?

Per P&P, Mulcair apparently has strong support in Sasketchewan and the Atlantic provinces. Topp still the frontrunner IMO.

Also: Is there any chance Topp might run in TO-Danforth when the by-election is called?

It would be hard to run in a by-election and a leadership race at the same time.

I am bewildered at exactly why so many have endorsed Topp and why he's become the 'frontrunner.'

He's a powerful Party insider. The NDP, both federally and some provincial branches, have gone with such people before (David Lewis would be one example).

or Mulroney.

Even Harper was arguably some sort of "insider" when he won the leadership of the Alliance.

Evidently so. Shame. He doesn't strike me as good person to be the face of the party.

I think his support is one of those cases of being a mile wide and an inch deep.

I'm not generally a fan of Topp running, i agree thats not the face i want to see. Hes been fantastic in the backroom, he should stay there we need those resources. In fact i think hes hurting the party more by running for the leadership.

I live in TO-Danforth... i don't want him to run here, i want someone with local deep roots, preferably a woman; anyone who is "dropped in" will feel a backlash and might cause this to move into the Liberal fold (obviously depending on who the Liberals nominate).

I really Hope Saganash runs, its sounding less likely and its starting to become a disapointing race... i will admit its still REALLY early.

Saganash is RUNNING!

http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Quebec+Romeo+Saganash+running+leader+post/5413799/story.html

Thank god, its fantastic news that we have another candidate and someone as new and exciting to people... is this not the first time a First Nations person has run for leader of any party?

It will be hard for me to not support the local guy.

EDIT: I add than this should help to quickly build membership in my area. First time than someone from Abitibi runs in a leadership race (on federal and provincial levels) since the 70's (Social Credit).
