Layton was born in Quebec, but did not represent a Quebec riding, and was considered by most to be from Toronto. If you know a simple way, without writing a paragraph, I can explain that Mulcair is the first real "Quebecker" to have a shot, then please, let me know.

Updated to reflect the lack of any pushback on the idea that Topp is no longer on top.

"Underdog"? "Finally turned around"? That headline is totally incorrect. As are the temperament claims. After two consecutive weak and indecisive Liberal leaders, the center and left-wing voters in Canada will have a decisive and strong leader like Mulcair to look forward to.

Teddy, I'm liking the chart.

Holmes: Hence why the Grits need to choose wisely. No one knows much about the race's state, since there's no reliable polling. Agreed on the headline. Mulcair, fairly or unfairly, has a reputation for not only being unable to suffer fools gladly but also very high-octane. NDP culture has never produced a high-octane leader.

Oh look, it's Boulerice and Boivin! They didn't seem to have a problem getting behind Mulcair back then when he was the only elected official in Quebec and was working to get them elected.

Loyalties change. Topp also had a hand in the Quebec strategy, don't forget.

Still, I do need to see that movie; but I don't see the intensity? sorry. Don't get me wrong, I like Mulcair, but I just don't see what you are talking about.

This graph is amazing... but can you let us know how you were able to plot each candidate?
I'm somewhat surprised Topp isn't on the left of Jack after his admirable "tax the rich" stance... my joke is i'm surprised hes not in the same square as jake LOL ... a joke, not necessarily a good one Tongue
My impression are that Cullen can't be that left wing if he wants joing candidates with the Liberals? and Just because Mulcair wants less weight of Labour within the party does that make him so polar to Nash who was a negotiator and president but that shouldn't automatically place her in their most favoured square.
Anywho, just looking for how you plotted the candidates... and i'm sure its fluid

Nash actually seems to be making herself into, in the words of The Star, a practical radical.  At the debate, she was talking about bridging the gaps between business and labor (sorry, labour lol we Americans are so weird with spelling) and "combining their interests."  But the way she is talking about making the economy an NDP strength rather than a weakness seems to resemble Topp, but with more charisma.
And to revise my original order: Nash would now be my first choice, Saganash the second, and Cullen the third.  That is, how I'd vote if I lived in Canada, and were an NDP member lol.  Here's a link to the article.

An aside - Hatman, since I have signatures turned off, whenever I see your posts, I think to myself "I don't remember posting that" until I realize... Smiley

Assuming I were an NDP member, I'd probably go:

1- Ashton, largely because she's good looking
2- Dewar
<gap>
3- Saganash
4- Cullen
5- Nash
6- Topp
7- Singh
8- Mulcair
