1. Mulcair
2. Nash
3. Dewar
4. Saganash
5. Ashton
6. Cullen
7. Singh
8. Topp

An aside - Hatman, since I have signatures turned off, whenever I see your posts, I think to myself "I don't remember posting that" until I realize... Smiley

I tend to agree with that ballot, except than I would rank Saganash higher, as he is my MP.
Another place where we look like each other. It begins to be creepy.

Honestly, the only ones that could change for me would be Saganash and Dewar... I only have Dewar above Saganash because he's from Ontario, and I just know more about him. But there are more debates left, so it might change.

My reasoning:

1) Paul Dewar - My MP, and someone I can see as a good compromise candidate. Will have to pick up his French, though.
2) Niki Ashton - young and attractive, but fairly inexperienced
3) Romeo Saganash - an inspiring choice but too inexperienced
4) Peggy Nash - well respected in the party, but can't seem to give straight answers to questions
5) Martin Singh - I like his platform, but no experience
6) Nathan Cullen - has good environmental credentials but wants to scrap the gun registry. Doesn't inspire me at all.
7) Thomas Mulcair - Heard too many horror stories, and has made one too many gaffes. Has to change his ways if he wants a higher position. Otherwise, he's a great candidate.
Cool Brian Topp - Opportunistic chosen one. I will not support someone who was thrown at us by the party elite. Even if Jack chose him on his death bed. Jack wasn't the greatest at these choices... look at his choice of interim leader.

Come on, the gun registry is such a non-starter, especially in today's environment.

Obviously I wouldn't make the mistake of assuming that the NDP members here are entirely reflective overall, but this level of hostility towards Topp is very interesting.

The opposite of the anti-Iggy movement 5 years ago. Instead of "How dare the base deny this worthy establishmentarian (Dion) his turn" it's "how dare the establishment impose this guy on us." Fun times.

If Mulcair is your first preference, it doesn't matter where you put Topp, of course.

Wait - this is IRV right? Not Condorcet?

It is IRV

I know; I intern for an MP who wants to scrap the registry. I had to come up with some excuse as to why Cullen doesn't excite me.

Basically. I do have a feeling that Nash will finish second, though. I think if you put Topp in the second or third spot on my list and bump everyone else down one, that's the final placings I would predict right now too.

Topp: The choice between Mulcair and I is an ideological one.

No thanks.

I don't think than having a rigid ideologist which creates tensions in the party is a good choice.
Especially when he says nonsence to attack people.

Topp is a very bad choice and I hope than NDP members are smart enough to see it.

New thing I'll be doing: Endorsement maps. Not sure if I'll put it in my blog or not; let me know if I should. Anyways, I'll be posting it here for the mean time. I'll keep updating it as each new endorsement comes in:

Larger version in the gallery, of course.

Cool map!

Weird to see the MP for Joliette endorsing Ashton along with a few others.

Note to self: the map needs to be updated, as the former PEI ndp leader (the guy who actually won a seat there) has endorsed Mulcair.

He may be the only person from PEI to go on my map. Unless the current  (or other former) leader(s) endorses someone. I'm not putting in past candidates, which would include the former Charlottetown candidate who also endorsed Mulcair.

Re Topp: We always knew the NDP was never going to rebrand ideologically beyond where Layton went, and anyone proposing it would meet with fierce resistance. So it happens...
