For those who don't know, Hearts of Iron II is a World War 2 strategy game made by the incredibly awesome developers Paradox Interactive, who make a bunch of games like this (Victoria, Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, etc.) I've owned the game for years but I've gone back and have been playing it quite a bit lately. And I've decided what this forum could really use is a good HOI2 After Action Report.

So, who would follow this? What country should I play?

I'd really prefer to do Germany, but France and the Soviet Union are both very fun as well, and I've never played as the UK so that'd be nice to try, and if everyone wants to see me play as the US (or any other country, for that matter), I'd be willing to give it a try.

Also, if there's any interest, I could add Atlas posters into the scenario as generals, admirals, tech teams, and/or ministers.

So, yeah, any interest in seeing this?

Playing EU3 at present as England; might get this for Christmas.

I suggest Ireland or Sweden. Would be interesting to play one of the neutrals.

HOI 2 is an awesome game, definitely get it. Smiley You might want to look into HOI3 but I haven't played it yet; from my understanding it's a lot more complicated.

And I'd rather play as a bigger country, but maybe Smiley

UK would probably provide the most interesting AAR.

I have HOI III. I didn't care for it that much.

Sometime its fun to play a small country.

Try England if you haven't yet.

It is fun to play as a small country, I agree, but for an AAR I'd rather play a big country so it doesn't get boring for the reader.

And hm, I suppose I'll play the UK; I'll probably start this sometime next week.

Any interest in the modding forumites into the game idea?

I'd definitely follow.

England or France would be fun, but England is probably the best.

France or USSR would be the most fun I think.

This forum could definitely use more AARs though, so I wish you success.

Play as Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Poland, or any eastern European country (an axis Poland sounds VERY interesting).

Has anyone ever tried an invasion of India and the Eastern Asian parts of the British Empire as the USSR? Is it doable?

I will actually do this one day. Not now, but when I have more free time, certainly.

In the meantime, here's a screenshot from a recent game I've been meaning to share. I know Kal will enjoy it:

I spent three years doing nothing but modernizing and building up the Polish army, up to ~100 infantry divisions. In late August 1939 I moved everything to the German border and supplied them all for an offensive. As soon as the war declaration came, I was able to attack before the Germans did, focusing on the weak points in their lines, keeping the momentum until I captured Berlin. I attached anti-tank brigades to each of the cavalry units that Poland starts with so I could rapidly move them to wherever the panzers tried to counterattack.

The Luftwaffe was very troublesome. Keeping my army in big stacks helped mitigate the damage from the bombers, because it was dispersed among so many divisions. Any unit that became isolated though was destroyed entirely- I lost my only Headquarters unit that way in the first week of the war.
