Am I reading this right, that it seems like both Sanders and Nader hurt Romney more? Because that is odd...

Most of these make no sense. How does Sanders hurt Romney?

Might be some who hate blacks more than Mormons, but Mormons more than Jews and Arabs?

Or else just Romney riding the wave of anti-Obama sentiment of all stripes.  But I'm skeptical the Romney-unless-Sanders-runs voters would actually turn out to vote for Romney when they get a closer look.  They may stay home though.

Perhaps including a far left alternative makes Obama seem more palatable to independents, since Obama seems very moderate in comparison to Sanders or Nader.

The left itself doesn't have much appetite for a third party after 2000, so the net result is that it helps Obama.  I doubt that this would translate in a real election, where third parties would become a sideshow.

lol @ Nader getting 7%. At least it gives us an idea of just how much these numbers are inflated.

Stop talking like people actually know who the heck Bernie Sanders is Wink  I suspect the "Sanders supporters" are right-wing voters who hate Obama and Romney equally and thus support the random name they've never heard of because he's not either Obama or Romney.

I'd be more interested in Huntsman as a 3rd party candidate with a guy like Perry as the GOP nominee.

He'd steal moderate GOP votes and would probably be a reasonable choice as a protest vote from progressives.  That makes him formidable.

Palin and Paul are the only two hurting Romney.  The rest are picking up disillusioned Barack support more than anything.

Neither Bloomberg or Romney are the base for guys like Sanders and Nader.  Obama should really be the one hurting from both since the far left hates the man.

True, 7% seems a little low after how much Obama has stabbed the left in the back.

We're also smart enough not to give the Republicans a free ride to the presidency.

These numbers say a lot about Romney. I bet that Perry would be doing better in each of these scenarios. While the conventional wisdom is that Romney is the better general election candidate, the fact that so much of the base would vote 3rd party shows that the GOP would have a lot of work to do on 'get out the vote' for him.

If Perry's the nominee, I'll vote third-party or leave the top of the ballot blank.  Period.
