Mildly negative.

The only time I ever experience it is when a priest decides to try and get "interactive" with the laity and starts asking questions in his homily or something. It's kind of annoying and I feel like I'm in school.

Never mind, then...never experienced it and probably never will.

Why should they?

Would you expect these people to sit still? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGvNDdi8yh4

No, I would expect their fight or flight response to kick in - either they would run away to get away from that racket, or they would feel that their eardrums are so threatened that they would have to attack the problem.

Asking questions during sermons goes against the whole idea of going to church, surely?

Horrid, horrid.  I can tell I'll hate a church if people start waving their hands around like lunatics.

Neutral, as it depends on the type of church. It wouldn't be suitable in the church I attend but I understand that the waving your hands thing is very common in more charismatic churches. I neither condemn nor praise that since a person's inner attitude towards faith is what counts, in my opinion.

Incredibly negative.  I would instantly leave and never come back if my church started doing that.

At my old church, they would actually ask everyone to extend their hands in prayer or something over the RCIA candidates.  That was really weird, and I never participated.  If I wanted to be Pentecostal, I wouldn't go to a Catholic church...

Was that like yesterday how a bunch of people piled to the front of the church like a sports huddle and extended their hands over the associate pastor who's taking leave once she gives birth to pray for her and her family? Or did you remain seated?

That sounds incredibly tacky and white-trashy, tbh.  Or possibly black (African American churches tending to be on the charismatic side).  Either way, it's not something I could see myself doing.

This is hardly just a Pentecostal thing, I've even seen it at more contemporary Lutheran services.

Alright, fine. If I wanted to be Protestant, I wouldn't have become a Catholic. Tongue

Ok, there are charasmatic Catholic churches too. I don't go to those, though.

Very Positive. Im not pentecostal, but Church can be fun like theirs...Wink Seriously, dancing in the rows, blaring Southern Gospel (Shirly Ceaser anyone Smiley?), screaming "Amen" all the time, its actually quite fun. It gives a feeling of community to Church.

It gives a feeling of "scary cult" to the church. "Scary, creepy Pentecostal cult".  *shudder*

My Catholic brethren, do not let these other Protestants lead you astray: there are Protestants in the world who rightfully recognize the sedentary nature of church services!

When I think of creepy cult-like Pentecostals, I think of men dressed up in suits and women in those ridiculous dresses that are right out of the 19th century. Not the pierced, tattooed, hair dyed youngs in T-shirts and jeans that make up most of the crowd at my church.

It's not really my thing. I used to go to worship services where people did that and sometimes felt weird for not feeling any need to do that - so it can be kind of a turn off for me. I don't have a problem with expressive gestures in worship, but it can become just a convention or show, and that annoys me.

Well, I don't think of pierced, tattooed, hair dyed youngs in t-shirts and jeans that make up most of the crowd at your church when I think of Pentecostals, either.  But I sure as heck think of hand raising.

Hand waving, dancing, making loud, indecipherable noises...BRTD was born to be a snake handling Pentecostalist.

Very negative, but that'd be my vote for nearly all religious activities.
