if not disrespectful (though he is the POTUS, guess he has the right to be a jerk), definitely unsportsmanlike and not very smart

His blithering idiot Press Secretary will give an eloquent explanation, I'm sure.  Roll Eyes

yeah, definitely the worst Press Secretary since George Stephanopoulos...can't believe they don't have more common sense than to have a wormy looking dweeb for a press sec....it's as if they don't understand PR at all.

Three Best Press Secretaries last 30 years:
1) Larry Speakes (Reagan)
2) Marlin Fitzwater (Reagan/Bush41)
3) Ari Fleischer (Bush43)

If the GOP did this, you'd be declaring it a great political tactic.

upstaging someone is one thing, but pulling the microphone away from someone is totally different (unless there was a new crisis justifying it, but the unemployment problem has been going on since before Obama took office, there is no justification for this timing and only makes him look childish and adds to the perception of arrogance - "I am the POTUS! So go sit in the back of the bus.").

And does anyone honestly expect any real substantive statements from either event?

well, in the long run this little incident isn't gonna be remembered...and, yes, the POTUS is giving the GOP some ammo to shoot him with...but, the public is really no longer looking to Washington for answers, which right now is a problem for Obama, for not only do The People neither trust his lack of leadership nor his failed plans, but Obama's got "Boehner's Bitch" still freshly tattooed on his back side.

Boehner just told him to come back the next day.

Lol.

what did I tell you:

at this rate, Boehner could walk away with the GOP nomination himself!

Boehner's badassery has been quite impressive and entertaining as Speaker.

Not only is Obama stepping on the GOP debate but the dust-up is also eclipsing Palin's Iowa Tea Party drama.  Boehner's historic refusal is actually a preview of the GOP response to the proposals in the speech itself.

Who says its historic? You?

The House historian.  Also me.

Kindly link please. Because Joint Sessions have been rescheduled (not that this one was ever scheduled) for numerous reasons.
one was rescheduled due to the Challenger accident in 1986, but this may be the first due to pure badassery

He's the freaking president. It's very likely that this was the only real choice.

remind me again:  where did the idea arise that Obama was smart?

Oh Obama!
You told Boehner
to make room on his calendar
for your speech full of *hit.
Now he tells you
to eat your *hit
on your own calendar.
Who is the Speaker,
and who is the POTUS?

Do you hear
laughter, Obama?
Yes.
The laughter of Americans.
In Florida,
in Ohio,
in Pittsburgh PA...
...as the POTUS surrenders
to the Speaker,
once again!

Boehner office denial: A Boehner spokesman went on the record to deny the claim. “No one in the Speaker’s office — not the Speaker, not any staff — signed off on the date the White House announced today,” Boehner press secretary Brendan Buck wrote in an email. “Unfortunately we weren’t even asked if that date worked for the House. Shortly before it arrived this morning, we were simply informed that a letter was coming...

WOW,
Sept 8: going to haf to make a beer run for this one,
football,
big speech - because of the joint session, means - his jobs plan will have to be written down in advance, then CBO can score, and a GOP response;
wife's B-day - grill'n steaks and stuff, wonder if she realizes how big it will be... the evening?

I'll need to take a nap this day...

even if Obama reschedules - realizing, 'ya no, I ain't got anything new anyway'....

I'm still taking a nap.

Bernanke is speaking earlier in the day.  Smiley

...and Becky Quick comes on at 6am

I can only imaging all the catcalls in sports bars across the country next Thursday.

Unfortunately for the country, Obama missed his chance during the stimulus - instead of taking the pain of state budget cuts and choosing to invest in projects that would produce career-length private sector jobs, he opted for temporary projects along with the protection of state government jobs.  Now both the temporary projects and state government jobs are being cut anyway...he simply delayed the painful cut to government payrolls (mostly democrats that are part of his base) from 2009 to 2011-12, and therefore he has nothing on the private sector side to show for the stimulus.

he stands 14 months away from his potential reelection, and the economy over the next 6 months is gong to suck at best...so his hopes are  pinned on the economic performance over the last 8 months leading up to the election....which he will most likely lose due to the fact that he simply had zero economic imagination.

he's giving the speech at 7pm EDT (6pm CDT, 5pm MDT, 4pm PDT) next Thursday?!  isn't that an hour before what is considered the beginning of primetime?!

ok, this is dumb, he should have just did it this week from the Oval Office at around 9-10pm EDT.
