I'd say he'd be a Democrat. I doubt he would be comfortable within today's GOP

He was a fine example of what the GOP had to offer before it was taken over by the religious.  He'd be a Democrat today.

We're talking about Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller, a Liberal Republican from New York who was Gerald Ford's Vice-President (Among other things, including Governor). Rockefeller died in his office of a heart attack or unknown causes (Depending on which source you look at) in 1979.

If you're talking about this Winthrop Rockefeller (don't know if there's another one)  http://www.winrock.com/bio.asp  than I can answer that question for you. Yes, he is a Republican and currently serving as Lt. Governor of Arkansas. He's also running for Governor in 2006.

I don't even know who the hell Rockefeller is, but I don't give a damn.

He was Gerald Ford's Vice President, and before that, Governor of New York for 14 years.

You've never heard of the term "Rockefeller Republican" (which nowadays usually equates to "RINO")?

Because Andrew is a moderate Republican, and thus would probably prefer to see the previously more liberal members of the GOP in the party rather than out of it.

no, the winthrop rockefeller from the 70s.  he was a republican governor of arkansas and a defender of civil rights and a staunch opponent of the death penalty.
