Hold on sec... Barack Obama sweeps the Deep South?  In 1924???

This reflects Coolidge's bad performance being weaker than Obama's bad performance. Obviously, if Obama was somehow nominated in 1924 he'd lose by comical margins there.

Harding vs. Hoover (1928):

Harding wins 282-249, using 1928 numbers.

--

Now here's Eisenhower (1952) thrown into the mix:

256-180-95, using 1952 numbers. Harding's just shy of a majority.

--

And here's who places second in the above election:

I like the idea of three (or more) candidate races. I think an interesting twist would be a landslide candidate versus two or more candidates who won smaller victories (or losses), to see how much it takes for a landslide candidate to be denied an EC majority.

Dukakis demolishes Clinton '92 based on 1992 EC votes.

This looks like a standard pre-CRA Republican landslide, but NJ and NH are significant outliers.

Since we've been making the comparison for years...

Dewey 1948 vs. Romney 2012

Dewey 290
Romney 241

Using 1940 numbers

Looks almost exactly what a slightly smaller Obama victory would have looked like.

Clinton - 1996 vs. Obama 2012:

Obama - Red
Clinton - Blue

This looks pretty close to a Democratic landslide, with the massive outlier of MA. It's quite amazing how well Clinton did in MA in 1996.

1980 Reagan vs. Obama 2012

Obama 275
Reagan 263

Using 1990's numbers. Lucky for Obama that Jimmy Carter was from Georgia. Smiley

Barring Georgia, this is a couple of hundred votes in NM away from being the exact 2000 map.
