I Always find it interesting that it is usually Englishmen who identify more with their Britishness and Scots (exception most Glasgow Rangers supporters) and many Welsh (the non-Anglo influenced areas) usually go out of their way to express their separate identity.  I've seen it posulated that perhaps a little colonial guilt is play.
