Why did my ex-Catholic mom tell me most of those then as well as that all people who use condoms go to hell?

btw, the more conservative Lutheran denominations consider the Pope the Antichrist, although mine doesn't.

BRTD,
I remember a thread wher philip or someone stated something along the lines of:
There is no way BRTD is a christian

after that supersoulty, a catholic actually came to your defence.

I dont know what your mother told you specificaly or why but It is a documented fact that Catholics accept protestants a true Christians.

Because, as it is often said, a disaffected critic is always the worst.  Offten times, Catholics hear things about their religion from non-Catholics that are not true and never bother to ask.

I should note that most of what my mom has said about the Catholic Church has contained words that would be censored if posted here so she might not be the best source.

Despite the fact my mom's not really a big feminist, the women priests issue seems to REALLY get to her, among other things.

Common falacies that are believed by just about every Protestant I have ever talked to:

1) Catholics worship Mary.

2) Catholics worship statues.

3) Catholics worship saints.

4) Catholics believe that non-Catholics are doomed to Hell.

5) All Protestants are seen as being "excomunicated" from the Kingdom of God.

6) All priest all pedophiles.

7) The Pope is seen as being illfallable and free of sin.

Cool We worship the Pope.

9) Pope Pius XII was a monster who hated Jews and cooperated with Hitler.

There are many others.  Those are just a handful.

Yeah I remember that summer debate with Josh where he kept insisting that southern Catholics pray to saints and you could never tell him he was wrong. What a joke.

My favorite was when some anti-Catholic guy I know made a statement that a majority of priests are pedophiles. You have to look at that statement and laugh (because it's obviously not true) but when I first heard it, I was very angry.

Why? Why does this bother people? Should men start complaining about how they can't become a nun? Women have roles in the Church, men have roles in the Church. They might be different role but they're still important and included.

ask my mom. Once when we passed a Catholic church on a Sunday she told us that inside they were likely being told that women were lesser and inferior.

The ones I listed are just the ones that are easily refuted by any Catholic who knows their faith.

The funny thing is that, traditionally speaking, the nuns have always had a greater effect on the Catholic community than the priests did, as Catachism teachers were almost always nuns.

Your mother is certainly disaffected, but certainly not excomunicated.

It is a term that Protestants use for Catholics.  It is equivilent to the term "ni**er".

Back to the original article, after reading up more on this it appears she's a member of Opus Dei.

This goes beyond simply being Catholic. Opus Dei = BAD NEWS

Al, are you familiar with Bill Pryor? The Republicans made ridiculous claims of anti-Catholicism of the Democrats trying to keep him from his judicial seat when the reason was clearly he was extremist views. This sounds kind of similar to the ridiculous claims, although I suppose it might be different in the UK because of the whole Northern Ireland issue.

The best part is when they went on and on about how Senators Patrick Leahy and Ted Kennedy were anti-Catholic.

True (probably) and it could be argued that if she was Health Secretary or International Development Secretary this could cause problems. As she isn't (and has said she won't work in either Department because her beliefs would clash with her job) it's not really a problem.
It's worth adding that the U.K's leading fertility expert (and Groucho Marx look-a-like) Robert Winston doesn't have a problem with Kelly as Education Secretary.

The Daily Mail ran a piece two or three days ago about her Opus Dei membership. It got a letter response today.

She's a Catholic- so what?

I think the official position is that Protestants and ex-Catholics are mistaken or misled, and are encouraged to return to the Church, but  they are true Christians and thier souls are not in danger.  The quote from Vatican II is - "For men who believe in Christ and have been truly baptized are in communion with the Catholic Church even though this communion is imperfect."

Apostates are those that know and believe that the Catholic Church is the true church, yet still work against it.  These are the ones in trouble.
