For the same reason many other opinions are popular on the internet; it's an ability to publically but anonymously express opinion and speak to likeminded individuals.

This.

Also, for groups whose views are in the minority and have had difficulty getting exposure for their views using traditional mediums the internet is a rather cost effective way of getting said exposure.

Any article that explains this phenomenon? Was this brought up from the rise of anti-PCism popular culture that was mainstream from 1998-2001 such as South Park, Nu-metal, rap, WWF, and Jerry Springer?

Part of it is that the internet has no clear authority figure and both atheism and libertarianism are skeptical of authority.

Leftism is the same way with authority.

Leftism is the same way with authority.

That depends on the authority.

Although, it does with libertarianism too (see the willingness to accept corporate authority).

Because it is filled with Pre-teens and teens that are interested in holding counter-cultural views for their own shock-value sake.

No, but I'm referring to the type of 'libertarianism' that actually has some vague influence on public policy, which tends to be corporatist.

Come to that, state authority isn't something all leftists can get behind either.

Authority such as cops and military are distrusted by most leftists.

It doesn't matter. They're both anti-establishment and that was the point.

I just wanted to point out that 'corporatist' refers to someone who follow corporatism, which is Mussoulini's theory that parts of a society should act together as one body. I'm pretty sure libertarians aren't a fan of that. I think the word you're looking for is 'corporatocratic'.

Because the majority of internet users are highly educated adults and youths.  These two groups tend to be atheist and libertarian.  Particularly youths, who seem transition from apathy to libertarianism seamlessly before being immersed in the real world.  Adults seem to be more of a well rounded group.
