National Archives evidence that John Kerry received 31 more electoral college votes than he should have:

http://www.archives.gov/federal_register/electoral_college/2004_certificates/vote_new_york_03.html

This is evidence, along with the MN elector who voted for "John Ewards", that the Democrats really didn't give a crap about who they were voting for, so long as he wasn't "George W Bush."

Wouldn't this mean that the real Kerry (John F) will receive 31 fewer votes?  They didn't vote for John F Kerry and John L Kerry, just John L and Edwards.  I think that means he should get 31 less.

Not that it matters anyway.

So let me get this straight....

George W. Bush: 286
John F. Kerry: 220
John L. Kerry: 31
John Ewards: 1

So if Bush lost, he could still win in the House thanks to the stupid antics of Kerry electors? That's priceless!

How do you know that John L. Kerry is the elector's faults?

All those people conspiring to take EVs away from the losing candidate. Jfraud, you need serious counseling. You need to take a life break and stop yourself from turning into bandit.  Everyone is not out to get you, or liberals, or anti-war idiots.  We just had an election, which 99.99% percent of Americans except as legitimate. Only a handful of people whose crediblity is in serious doubt, still are fighting the result. Chill out, except that George W Bush is your president for the next 4 years, 1 month.  If you don't like that Mexico is right across the border. Have fun.

This is why we should do away with electors.

I would think it was just a misprint on the ballots.

What I meant was keep the EC, but don't actually have electors, just give the votes automatically to the winning candidate after the results are certified.

I agree completely.  What if Kerry had won 270-268, and this joker accidentally (if it was accidental) votes for Edwards for President?  Can you imagine the mess that would be?  Some states have laws that force electors to be faithful.  They should be made nation-wide.

Why not just make electoral votes numbers on paper?

This sort of thing makes me laugh more than anything else I read on this forum. "John Ewards" for president and now 31 votes for JLK! This is why I love the electoral college, it at least provides comic relief

Hey! I just realized the certificate is doubly wrong! Look closely beneath "John L. Kerry" and you'll see "of the State of Massachusetts." But this "State of Massachusetts" is non-existant, what does exist is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Does this mean that the 31 votes have to be thrown out completely?

Upon review of the forty-something vote certificates that have been posted at NARA, I have discovered the final tally (assuming the certificates that haven't yet come in are correct) is:
George W Bush 286
John Kerry 210
John Edwards 1
Uncountable 41

Dick Cheney 276
John Edwards 252
Uncast 10

Wisconsin electors also made the "State of Massachusetts" mistake and Arizona electors failed to vote for vice-president apparently

What would make this complete is for someone named "John L. Kerry" to file suit to claim his legally filed electoral votes.

Note that Gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer is one of the 31 electors that voted for Mr. Kerry.

It was the final thing (not sure how to put it - but he didn't sign it), I believe, not what Spitzer voted for. I may be incorrect.

Jake, Phil, etc. Little reality check here. The NY electors voted for John F Kerry. The state printers effed up.

Clearly this is the back-up plan in case the recount in OH gives a Kerry a win therre.  Just more evidence of massive voter fraud by the GOP!
