I'm going with Mondale.  I remember seeing his convention acceptance speech on C-Span a few months ago.  Boy was that depressing.

He's the only democrat I wouldn't have enthusiastically supported in the election.  He even had to get a new VP.

Mondale was up against tougher resistance in the form of Reagan. I'd go with McGovern. Goldwater was, if you include his views and style, worse than at the very least Dole.

I must say, though, Dole lost for the same reason Kerry did. They were both boring candidates, running as the anti-Bush/Clinton puppets. 1996 was Clinton vs. anti-Clinton. 2004 was Bush vs. anti-Bush. The people who run on the sole platform of defeating the incumbent always lose.

George Bush is a horrible president, in my opinion worse than Reagan.  The fact is though, he ran a great campaign.  Rove made Bush out to be a great candidate to those who believed him.

Definitely McGovern.

To begin with, his first running mate had to be replaced, as mentioned in a previous post.  Nothing personal against his first VP choice, however, this indicates an extreme lack of proper organization.

His scramble to find someone who would even accept the VP spot on the Dem ticket was a bit of a circus.

And did you see the pictures of McGovern leaving the convention hall?  He was surrounded by what one journalist referred to as, and I don't have the exact quote, but stating that McGovern had been nominated by the cast of "Hair".
