John F. Kennedy (1917-1976)
Member, United States House of Representatives (1947-1953)
Member, United States Senate (1953-1963) [1]
United States Secretary of State (1965-1969)
Secretary-General of the United Nations (1971-1976)

Following his loss to Richard Nixon in the 1960 presidential election, JFK is forced to resign from the U.S. Senate in February 1963 following a number of ethics charges.  His name is eventually cleared by 1964, allowing him to be appointed by President Henry "Scoop" Jackson as Secretary of State in 1965.  Following Jackson's failed reelection bid in 1968, JFK is elected as the first American Secretary-General of the U.N. in 1971.  He passes away of natural causes in 1976.

Thad Cochran (1937-present)
Member, United States House of Representatives (1973-1978)
Member, United States Senate (1978-1991)
Governor of Mississippi (1992-2000)
United States Secretary of Agriculture, serving President George W. Bush (2001-2005)
Member, United States Senate (2007-2008)

Thad Cochran opts to retire from the Senate and run for Governor of Mississippi in 1991.   He successfully becomes the first GOP governor of the Magnolia State since Reconstruction, and Haley Barbour is elected to succeed him in the Senate.  After serving as Governor, Cochran is appointed to be United States Secretary of Agriculture by George W. Bush, a position he holds until 2005.  Following Trent Lott's resignation in 2007, Cochran is appointed by Democratic Governor Amy Tuck to hold the seat until a November 2008 special election.  He does not seek the seat in his own right in 2008, and (now former) Governor Tuck is narrowly elected to the Senate in 2008.
