Whatever the final margin (after all the adjustments are made) is in Virginia is the final margin. Recounts don't change anything; there was a House of Delegates election in '09 where the margin was something like 12 votes, and a recount only changed the margin by 2 or 3 votes.

Democrats will have to stack the committees in the Senate; Republicans will have control on the floor (with Bill Bolling as a tie-breaking vote), but committees will be split 50/50.

Also, the VA DEMOCRAT HOUSE MINORITY LEADER was destroyed.

Yet, not a post mentioning it here... wonder why?

Yes, this is a Democrat-leaning forum.  Thanks for pointing that out to us.

Let's see who's voting in MS:

I wonder how she voted on the Personhood issue ...

I have no clue how this will play out, I'll predict it'll pass by 52-48 ...

I'd cross party lines for her...

Harlan county Smiley

Anyways, I'm wondering if Beshear has maybe done something to irritate people in Knox county, as that pattern doens't really show up elsewhere. Odd.

Sounds painful. Anyways, any details on that? Or on the VA House elections in general.

I made a quick count of the Mississippi State Senate based on preliminary results.  It looks like 29R, 23D or 30R, 22D.  I'm too lazy to count up the seats in the 122 House districts to see if the GOP picked up the 8 needed for a majority.

Here's the preliminary Ohio Issue 2 map. All but 15 counties are all the way in, but most of those 15 are mostly in. The only county I'd worry about maybe changing on this map is Delaware County. I'll update it if it does.

Where did you get these figures?

As was already pointed out here, Dems got crushed. 66-32-1 GOP (the one Indy caucuses with the GOP), with one race still outstanding.  Was 59-39-2 GOP.

Well, thankfully the GOP was able to win Ag Commisioner, one of the most powerful positions in the state, responsible for millions of dollars.

Republicans picked up six seats (or seven if you count a Republican-caucusing independent retiring and being replaced with a Republican), with one still outstanding. The House will either be 66-33-1 or 67-32-1.

Interesting. The strongly No counties along the Ohio River aren't even the traditionally Democratic counties. Gallia, Meigs, Lawrence and Jackson are all traditionally Republican. Meanwhile, traditionally Democratic Counties in the area like Jefferson, Belmont and Monroe were less strongly opposed.

I just went to the AP results page http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/elections/2011/by_county/MS_Page_1108.html?SITE=AP&SECTION=POLITICS and did the grunt work of counting up the leaders or winners for all 62 districts.  The actual final result will probably be a little different.

Fascinating, really fascinating. The general pattern seems to be more about class than partisan identity - or even historical partisan identity. Diolch!

The interesting thing to point out is how well the GOP did in the races for State Senate. The DemocRATs HEAVILY gerrymandered the State Senate districts to increase their chances of holding the Senate, yet even with that it wasn't enough.

Strangely, everyone here was harping that holding the Senate was an amazing thing that showed HOW BLUE VA is now and how OBAMA is the dear leader again.

The Democrats SHOULD have won in a blowout with the gerrymandered districts that they created. So barely holding on or losing is actually a HUGE loss.

If the GOP did indeed win the Virginia Senate, will there be a redo of the redistricting in that chamber?  I can't imagine them not at least trying to.
