His politics seem to work well in Texas, after all, he's been there since 2001 when then Governor Bush assumed the presidency.  I doubt he will be re-elected, though as 14, possibly 18 years in the same place is too much, especially the top office in the state.  Plus, I think his failing 2012 Presidential Bid is going to come back to bite him two years from now.

He will be a fool to run for re-election in 2014. I don't think Texas is trending to the left, but I will understand it if the voters pull the lever for a Democrat in 2014 if Perry doesn't step aside for someone new.

Texas is undoubtedly trending left.

This thread is isn't really about that. Come to think of it, I really shouldn't have brought it up at all. It is catnip for politicos.

Yes Texas is trending to the left

No, Perry would not be a fool to run for reelection in 2014.  The state would still probably be Republican enough to reelected a well entrenched incumbent.  Although I think he could be beaten

I could see Perry pulling a Coakley; a totally embarrassing defeat followed immediately thereafter by an epic landslide.

He hopefully won't run, and Republicans find someone better.

And for 2018, doesn't Ann Richards have a daughter that could run?

Are you referring to Cecile Richards? If so, she's the head of Planned Parenthood and I doubt that would play well in Texas.

Texas is trending left very slowly.  If Perry runs again in 2014, I'd expect a close election that could go either way.

Definitely no. And people should stop assuming that more Hispanics automatically = liberal state.

His embarrassing epic fail of a presidential campaign has put him in danger of losing, but Texas being Texas, he'll probably still pull it out.

I'm almost positive he won't run anyway. He will have already served over 14 years by the time his current term ends. He's gotta draw the line somewhere. But if by some small chance he does, then most likely yes, unless he really screws up in Texas. I don't think this presidential bid did him any favors, but I certainly don't think it significantly hurt him.

I wouldn't be too sure.  Perry is a man who loves having power.

If he runs, he'll win. No shortage of potential replacements though.
