It's a testament to the Update's great and enduring popularity that even this weak spin-off has managed to page 19.

It's a testament to the Update's great and enduring popularity that even this weak spin-off has managed to page 19.

And, this time, I'm trying my best to keep personal information out of it which is what got the Update thread shut down.  I spilled too much PI.  I do appreciate the moderators for allowing me to have this update spinoff and I do continue to promise I will not spill any personal information.  So, Alcon, Inks, and Mikado, thank you for allowing this update thread to continue for nearly 20 pages so far.

Update on my MBA application:

I just registered for the GMAT exam as part of my MBA application to the University of Central Oklahoma.  The date and time of the exam are Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 8:00 am in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  I'll probably go up the evening before and get a motel room so I can get a better night's sleep rather than having to get up before 4:00 am to drive two hours so I can get a good breakfast and be at the test center by 7:30 am.

After stepping on the scale this morning, I am pleased to report that I have now lost 17 1/2 pounds at a weight of 267.6, my best showing, yet! I felt pretty good yesterday, even though I thought I had pigged out and blown it, by having an entire large pizza from Little Caesars last night.  Even with the pizza, I still lost 2.4 pounds from yesterday morning.  I'm just imagining what it could have been had I not had that pizza.  I will probably eat a lot lighter today since I won't be home until 8:00 at the earliest and by then it will be too late for a big meal.  In fact, after I eat lunch this morning at 10:45, I may not eat again until tomorrow morning at my 9:30 lunch break.

I am growing confident in my weight loss adventure, now realizing that I can lose weight, especially after keeping this going for 8 full weeks.

I went to my Kenya meeting last night with 9 1/2 weeks until departure.  We had several wonderful developments.  First thing, we have several new travelers going with us, a lot more than we had when we last met on December 4.  Second, our coordinator said that our travel agent can get us an easier flight for $100 cheaper if we arrive in Oklahoma City on Monday, March 26 instead of Sunday, March 25. That's fine with me as I had already scheduled Monday off as a jet lag day.  I will just go back to work on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 regardless of jet lag.  They are going to purchase the airline tickets sometime the middle of this week and email us the itineraries by the end of the week.  Our church coordinator is telling us that he will be sending out quite a few emails this week.

We have 66 days until departure. Smiley

I expected this guy to change parties.

Considering his history, it wasn't a terribly brave expectation to have. I'm not sure how often he's switched to Republican - and subsequently switched back. At least twice before now, though.

Tomorrow, my major plan is to get my tetanus booster for my trip, one of two required shots before entering the country.

4 hours in Amsterdam, hm? Well the Amsterdam airport is conveniently located above a train line IIRC, so there should be plenty of time to get into town and visit a coffee shop.

Delta - 03:22 pm 03/25/2012 - 05:07 pm 03/25/2012 - Detroit to Oklahoma City

That's not too bad. Amsterdam is quite a user-friendly airport and should be relatively convenient for someone to connect in that hasn't flown internationally before.

I just got the tetanus shot about 11:45 this morning.  I'm now waiting on the pain to arrive.  I will probably take some Aleve to ward off any moderate side effects.  Apparently, according to my shot card, they gave me the Tdap vaccine which is once-in-a-lifetime shot instead of the 10-year booster.  They both cover the same thing, though.  I've got an appointment to get my yellow fever shot on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 1:00 pm.

I don't think Bushie gets that he's not staying in the fycking Nairobi Hilton with room service.  I also am still curious if he got it in writing he's allowed away from his job that long....

I'm staying in the Maisha International Guest House with according to what I've heard from people who have been there is a very nice motel-style accomodations.  No. it's not the Hilton, but he described it as the "Embassy Suites" compared to most mission trips.

I did get in writing, via an email from my supervisor yesterday.

I have a question that our international travelers may know.  How early should I get to the Oklahoma City airport for an international flight.  Is it 2 hours or is it 3 hours?  I know it's 90 minutes for domestic flights, and I assume it's longer for international trips.  My first flight departs for Minneapolis at 11:37 am.

The fact that your final destination is outside the U.s. isn't really relevant, you're still leaving on a domestic flight the same way anyone else stopping in Minneapolis is.

60 minutes is what I'd do, although 90 would give you time for a drink (or a sweet tea or whatever Smiley) before departure.

I talked to our trip organizer and he said they usually meet at the airport 2 - 2 1/2 hours before departure, probably because of the large group they have to manuever through check-in, security, and boarding.  If it were just me, I would probably get there about 1:45-2:00 before, but with the first flight at 11:37, I will probably get to the airport by 9:00.

I used to think that too, until I flew long-haul international for the first time and had the check-in attendant yell at me for showing up late for the domestic leg of the flight.  Apparently it does make a difference, and you still have to show up 2 hours before.
