The Democrat (Sanchez) appears to have dropped out. Not that it matters.

Would this be the first time a candidate with a Spanish surname defeats a candidate with an Anglo surname in a Republican primary in TX? There may have been a few exceptions where a heavily funded incumbent with the backing of the state power structure held off a Gene Kelly joke candidate, but nothing like this.

Certainly not, Quico Canseco was able to defeat Will Hurt in the TX-23 primary.
