So I'm at the point where I frankly don't care if such a scenario leads to another four years of Obama, if at least helps bring the Republican Party back to its senses. I'm still holding out hope that Romney will pull it off in the primaries, and the Tea Partiers will realize that they can't realistically have Gingrich or Cain as their nominee. If for some reason a clown does get the nomination, should Romney run as an independent?

No- the only way he gets ANY votes in general is as GOP nominee. No one likes him...

If your trying to make the case that there are all of these people that like moderate Republicans it would be quite embarrassing actually to your belief system. Watching Romney take 5% of the vote would probably do 0 to convince the GOP primary voters that moderate candidates are political winner and instead reinforce the meme that moderate candidates are stubborn elitists who stomp their feet, can't accept the will of primary voters, and try to ruin everybody's chances by making it all about them by running as an indie.

So yeah you're not doing yourself any favors advocating for that.

If it's Newt, Huntsman, or maybe Santorum, then no. If it's anyone else, and Obama's more unpopular than he is now, then go for it.

Why not? Someone has got to knock sense into Republican voters if they make the mistake of choosing one of the non-Mormons as their nominee.

If Romney loses the primary, I'm sure in some sense he'll be relieved to be through with this garbage.

6, 7 years down the drain, time to cut your losses.
