They're doing fine without it, and long-term demographic shifts will probably give it to them in the next 10-20 years anyway.

There was an entire thread where the idea that Latino voters are going to doom the Republican Party was debunked.

Targeting specific counties in safe states is beyond stupid.

normally yes but it is an act of symbolism. If Orange County becomes winnable to the democrats, it is a way for the democrats to assert themselves that they are truly the dominant national party the same way that the party was from 1932-1968.

But you've got it backwards. If the Democrats regained their position (say through a realignment) results like this would be a symptom of the change rather that its catalyst. The Democrats winning VT is one such situation. The factors that turned Vermont from solid R to solid D were a part of something larger. Symbolic victories don't make the change, no one really cares in the general public, it's just the end result.

Yes, of course this thread is ALL ABOUT Obama pulling all of his resources out of Iowa, Ohio, Florida, and Virginia so he can advertise in Orange County in a state he'll win by 10 points. Good Lord. If this fantasy of unprecedented tactical stupidity by a campaign that didn't show any in 2008 brings some people some pleasure, that at least has some value.

Indeed. Tongue Obama will lose Orange County in any event by substantial margin no matter how much he spends, unless the Pubbies nominate one of the "unacceptables."

Maybe freepcrusher was Rudy Giuliani's campaign manager in 2008.

"I swear, Rudy, you winning Dade county will send a symbolic shockwave that carries you to the nomination."

Hope no one minds if I bump this.

Does anyone here know why OC remains Republican? Is it the Vietnamese? The fact that Hispanic voters have low rates of turnout?

I mean, I know why OC was ultra-Republican in the past (don't make me write an essay on that Tongue ). But why is it still fairly GOP?

Who are already taxed heavily at the state level and would rather not add to their tax burden via more federal taxation. Who really wants to see improvements in their income go heavily towards tax coffers? Or worse, who wants to see their disposable income go down because of increased taxes?

It's not rocket science except to those who who pay no or few taxes, and public sector workers who are ultimately financed by taxation upon private sector individuals...

Why bother?  Its doesnt give Democrats anything extra.  This is just as stupid as it was when Obama was still campaigning for himself in 2008 when it was clear that he was going to win easily in October, rather than campaigning for downballot Dems.

No, it wasn't. Maybe it would have been advantageous for the Democratic party as a whole, but Obama wasn't in such mortal lock territory that he would have been comfortable doing that.

Remember there was still a glimmer of hope for McCain poaching Pennsylvania and holding all the non CO/NM bush states. It wasn't a done deal till 9:00

They're going to win it in the next few cycles no doubt. It's going in the same direction as San Diego county.

Orange is more suburban, whiter, and richer than the rest of the LA metro. Of course, it's going to be the most GOP-friendly area. Romney would do well here. The Insane Clown Posse, not so much.
