Something I want you to ask yourself while reading this: why did Labor allow for a conscience vote, but the Liberals demand a party-line vote? Seems to me that only one is respecting individualism in this case.

Well, it's only civil partnership recognition, but still very welcome. Now Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland and the ACT all recognise that non-het couples are equal, making up about 11/23 million Australians. But marriage (and civil unions) remain a federal power, and so whilst it's good that the states are making progress, and even surprising that Queensland is in the first half, it is still a long way from where we need to be.
