Yes, I am Canadian.  Please don't hold that against me.  I am as well proud of my American ancestry, which goes back on my father's side over 200 years.  So I consider myself part American as well.

Anyway, I read a book years ago, which I still have, "They Also Ran" by Irving Stone, a fascinating account of some of the candidates who didn't quite make it to the top

Clay (1824, 1832, 1844), Cass (1848), Scott (1852), Fremont (1856), Douglas (1860), McClellan (1864), Seymour (1868), Greely (1872), Tilden (1876), Hancock (1880), Blaine (1884), Bryan (1896, 1900, 1908), Parker (1904), Hughes (1916), Cox (1920), Davis (1924), Smith (1928), Landon (1936), Wilkie (1940), Dewey (1944, 1948), and some details as well on Stevenson (1952, 1956).

Has anyone else ever read this book?  Did you find it interesting?

Anyway, if interested, this book can still be purchased at Amazon.

I read that too! Very good book. Someone should do an update for all the candidates that have come and gone since then.
