I'm wary of cutting compensation to doctors.

It has a part in an overall cost reform, but the idea that it is the one size fits all fix, is pure stupidity. Basically ensuring that the care is in name only, for want of funds.

This bill is confusing.  Does it mean that individual Atlasians are now responsible for the other 5%?  The regions?  Do hospitals/doctors just have to eat the loss of revenue?

Are we getting rid of the idea that Atlasians are entitled to the care they need in a timely manner.. instead rationing out care more strictly and turning some people down for needed procedures?

There are many questions that need answering with this bill in its current form.

It would mean, I would suppose, that individuals and/or regional governments (should they decide to pick up the tab on their own) are responsible for the 5%.

The reason I wrote this bill is because I decided to actually do something wild and crazy and respond to GM reporting I did when I held the job that no one else decided to respond to; the fact that our health spending is increasingly over it's initial projections and we need to curtail certain things. I figured it was worth the debate and this Senate should get into the habit of actually responding to the GM more often.

So, it would nullify Section 1d, and Section 2a and b?

This is what I mean.  This bill was written hastily and is too vague.  That vagueness creates contradictions with current healthcare law.  For example, current law states the government may not require citizens to have coinsurance or pay copays to cover medical care costs from any of the services the health care act provides.  It also states explicitly that the federal government is responsible for all funding of the healthcare act which is distributed through regional offices.

Further, section 2b once again affirms the responsibility of the Atlasian government to cover all costs by forbidding participating doctors/clinics/hospitals from billing patients for care provided.

Essentially, the 5% reduction to these services would simply mean a forced 5% reduction in pay for doctors and overhead costs for medical facilities as the law states that all medically necessary procedures are covered.

So what this bill proposes is a nearly 10% reduction in pay for doctors providing services in the categories outlined in section one of the bill.  That is unacceptable.

Amend this bill so it is more comprehensive and is compatible with the current healthcare law... or kill it.

Spending cuts would be miniscule at best if you remove the part that actually cuts the most spending.

Doctors perform a valued service and deserve to be compensated fairly. Years spent in college and medical school means years of student loans and years less to save up money working.

Education costs are driving up medical costs which drives up costs of employment and thus drives down general employment, wages and the economy.

This is pure madness.

Just like teachers, doctors should receive elevated compensation, but there are reasonable limits, namely that you kill the golden goose to provide their largesse today at the expense of them and everyone being pauperized tomorrow.

We have to decide those limits as a soceity.

Doctors should not be facing the lion's share of the burden to provide health care to all... raise taxes on everyone or something, my only concern is that we aren't forcing one occupation to pay for everyone else.

Oh well, back to Marxist Blue for you. Tongue Kasich Blue was nice while it lasted.

When I saw that shua had been made GM and that Marokai Blue had enterred the Senate, it felt like the stars were aligning to fix the problems in the Healthcare act, and reduce somewhat that outrageous tax increase schedule starting in January (Damn commie tax raisers!!! Evil).

Needless to say it seems as though Marokai Blue, if indeed more inlign with the goal politically now, seems to have lost the bold, aggressive, legislative drive that defined him when he and Fritz led the effort to saddle us with this Healthcare law. And I have been sapped of my spare time these past two months.

It isn't about right or left. It is about fairness and fiscal responsibility. I'm willing to look into alternate cuts if you have ideas.

Aye

Reducing spending on health care is a good idea, but I don't know if passing a blanket act reducing compensation to all general practitioners is the way to do it.
