CNN ran this poll a few days ago. It will be interesting to see how it works out in Atlasia.

Yes.  If you answered no, you should consider it:

I stuffed 100 baht into the box at the South Pattya donation tent.  It was only $2.50.

My mom donated $25 and her company matched her donation.

Also, in Chicago all the media outlets (radio and TV) came together to sponsor a one-day relief drive, which totaled $1.7 million.

Aren't you a bitter SOB.  Spend your money on sex and ladyboys while your adopted country is experiencing a major disaster. Friggin' cold

This says a lot about Atlasians. In the CNN poll about 14% had donated to the cause. Among Atlasians its 57%.

Have you donated at home recently?

For Australians, Indonesia IS home basically; and thats why Howard hs granted $1 billion aussie to Indonesians to be disperesed as needed by Australians. IE, we're keeping a very close eye on the money, but it will all be spent in Indonesia. Add that to our $40 million already spent or pledged to other areas, and our private donations, and we are number one on the 'medal tally' that the Indonesian newspapers have been running. It's not particularly pleasant, but it's a very healthy competition and one I hope every nation beats us in. If they can go better then us, I won't complain. Remember the tally includes private donations, so if you want the US/Canada.UK etc. number one, start ringing up!

I am nervous about donating because I dont know what my money will be used for or where it will go. I really don't want my money filtered through the UN as they have shown they can't be trusted with any money.

I haven't donated yet. But I probably will donate to the Red Cross sometime soon. I wonder how many phony charities there are out there, taking money for this disaster and people are pocketing it.

I haven't either.  Going back to school and foregoing my old job has left me with not a lot of money to play with.  That said I am a selfish bastard because I have drinks at the pub that could go to a better cause.  I guess I will try altruism when I am a bit older.

Aussie charities, when they run emergency appeals, are audited to ensure all money raised was spent directly on the cause of the appel. For example, the red cross's bali appeal in 2002 spent about 5% in marketing that they then had to pay back.

Also, all donations over $A2 are tax deductable Smiley

The American Institute of Philanthropy at http://www.charitywatch.org/hottopics/tsunami_asia.html  rates various charities based on the percentage of donations which actually are used for their intended purpose.

I'll be playing in a $50 poker tournament next week (the usual place, etc) but with around 50% of the entry fees going towards the relief through an organization. Good cause, good poker.

Red Cross/CARE Australia/World Vision/Oxfam community aid abroad.

Tonight all three of the aussie commercial TV stations are airing a concert in relief of the disaster, which is being simulcast on triple M, a radio station down here in melbourne.

If you go to www.mmmelb.com.au and donate some money, you get to request a sonmg be played today in the lead up to the concert, with all funds going to Oxfam. It's a good way to donate Smiley

Yopu will also be able to listen to your song being played through their 'listen now' launch button near the top of the page which is a live stream.

Also, donating to an american charity isn't bad either, of course, and i'm not sure if you will get the tax deduction over there, but may as well try Smiley

Jake,

Please donate to the American Red Cross. The international Red Cross has had some problems with how their money is distributed from what I understand.

Thanks, I'm stuck between the concert one and CARE Australia.

I think I'll go with CARE
