of the tsunami. Why did it strike mostly Islamic nations if God is on their side?

Look what Islamic countries it hit.

Indonesia, Bangladesh, and India are in the top 4 in terms of Islamic population and all have elected female leaders and are much more liberal than Arabia.  Pakistan, also in the top 4, has also done the same.

Well.. Indonesia is Muslim, but Thailand, Burma, and Sri Lanka are not.  (Thailand has only a very small muslim minority).  Malaysia is about half muslim, and India has some Muslims but few along the coast in question I believe.

I suppose a Christian could say 'The Christians were spared', and point to the secular nature of the Scandanavian and German tourists who were killed.  A judgement upon the sun worshipers!

Most Christians don't believe in signs. I have no clue if Muslims do or not.

I'm not a biblical scholar but as I recall the book of revelations says that during the rapture god would take 100,000 of his people to heaven in the twinkling of eye. Thats about how many have died so far and about as fast as it happened.

On a more realistic note, earthquakes just happen. They don't care who they kill. They just happen.

Islam tends to be very fatalistic.

I'm sure that every Muslim that died was planning to take flight lessons.

That is extreme sarcasm; I find even the suggestion, even joking, that God is punishing Muslims with this completely appalling.  The people that died were not being punished by God.  Bad things happen to good people.

I agree, I was just responding to opebo, who said something like "I suppose a Christian could say 'The Christians were spared', and point to the secular nature of the Scandanavian and German tourists who were killed.  A judgement upon the sun worshipers!"

While I agree with JJ, I'd like to add that Aceh province is a hotbed of Islamic fundamentalism.

Philip, I was refering to this thread in general, and the comment was not directed at you.

I did wish to answer your question, however.

i recently received three books on religious fundamentalism, and basically, from what i've read, muslims love conspiracy theories, christians believe in nothing but a book written by men 2000 years ago, and jews in their superiority because they havnt found the messiah.

So, the tsunami was caused by a nuclear warhead detonated by the CIA (or the Mossad) on the ground of the Indian Ocean? ;-)

Wouldn´t it be more effective to detonate it in the Pacific Ocean then? ;-)
