Morgantown Democrat Mike Oliverio says he'll give it another shot in 2010.

"I think what the public is looking for is setting aside some of this partisan bickering, refocusing on creating jobs and protecting existing jobs, and trying to put our country back on a solid financial footing,"  Oliverio said Monday on MetroNews Talkline.

Oliverio narrowly lost the race in 2010 to now Congressman David McKinley of Wheeling.

Oliverio pointed to a dim view the American people have taken of Congress.  Recent polls show the Congressional approval rating is in the teens.

"The band-aid solutions are not enough,"  said Oliverio. "We need folks who are willing to go over there, roll up their sleeves, work hard, and try to find some real solutions.  I think I present an excellent background in terms of what I did in Charleston."

When asked whether he would back the reelection of President Obama should he earn the nomination of the Democrat Party for the 2012 race, Oliverio was non-committal in his answer.

"I've been very concerned with President Obama's job performance thus far," said Oliverio. "I think I join Senator Manchin in terms of raising concerns about the president's lack of leadership.  Clearly, it's lacking at this point and it hasn't served the people of West Virginia well.  I remain concerned about the efforts of our current president."

He's a DINO. Not endorsed unless there's nobody else.

What else would you expect from a WV Democrat!?

We could win this seat back with another candidate who isn't a conservative waste of refuse.

Well, I guess someone has to take on the Blue Dog DINO mantle since Ross and Boren are retiring.

Looking at his positions, he makes Robert Byrd look like Alan Grayson.

Looks like Oliverio is dropping out Sad

I found this on my Facebook feed from his profile:

"I have decided today to not declare myself a candidate for Congress in 2012. I sincerely appreciate the hard work and contributions of individuals, organizations and friends like you these past two years! This has not been an easy decision for me, but I believe it is the right one for my family.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and let me know if I can ever be of help to you in the new year!"

Maybe he can go join the Republicans now and be done with it.

There is speculation to that effect.

I mean, seriously. I don't get why some of these people don't just become Republicans.

Because they are power-hungry opportunists?

It wouldn't surprise me -in fact, most of the white Democratic delegation in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, and West Virginia would be more at home in the GOP.

Perhaps WV Democrats think two Manchins are better than one.

If he wants it he'll get it. Manchin is the most electorally prolific Democrat in the state (minus Rockefeller, who is such an elder statesman that he doesn't really count.)

Arkansas does still have a sizable number of real Democrats.

Please no. One Manchin is enough in Congress.

There are even genuine liberals like Bill Halter. West Virginia also has a few.

Out of how many in either chamber in the legislature?

I'm not sufficiently familiar with the state to provide numbers, but, as Snowstalker mentioned, Bill Halter is one.

Most already have. Those all used to be overwhelmingly Democratic states. Out of all those states you know how many White Dems are in the House now? 0 in MS, 0 in LA, 1 in AR, 2 in KY, and 1 in WV. And the GOP has 7 of the 10 Senate Seats.

I was referring to the legislatures in those states.
