Psychic:
A major disaster of some sort, taking place at some point between January and December, in either North America, Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, or Oceania. Also, a number of "well known" (wink wink) people will die.

Non-Psychic:
Something "brand new" from Apple, leaving people wondering if Jobs was really all that important.
A new big "thing" - IE Youtube, Facebook, twitter, etc, I'm thinking that something new will come up throughout the year.
The world will not end.
The US election will be a run-away similar to 08 (where there was only a very short period where the losing candidate was ahead in the polls), but I don't know who will be that loser.
The number of long-term memes (like rage faces, lol cats, etc) will decrease, while the number of short-term memes (like friday) will increase
Populism will become more and more popular worldwide, but nothing will "explode".

Just to comment on memes: The stalwart long-term memes (rage comics, lolcats, ponies) will stay strong (though lolcats are on the decline), though there will be at most one new long-term meme.

Even though Iran will continue to support terrorism against Israel (and potentially other western targets), the US and Israel will, again, not invade Iran (though they may bomb them or facilities and scientists will continue to blow up for no reason at all).

A couple of ships will be sunk in or near the South China Sea (soon to be renamed something else), but diplomacy will keep it from getting out of hand.

Obama will, of course, win again.

And Ceiling Cat says "internet memes will continue to be stupid".

*Ron Paul or Rick Santorum win Iowa, Romney still wins the nomination. Paul stays in to the end, and does not endorse anyone, but does not run 3rd party. Either Obama or Romney win, with Johnson taking 5% and maybe winning New Mexico.
*Philip, Duke of Edinburgh dies.
*Al Assad holds in Syria, and the revolt is stamped out.
*Iran will do something stupid, and Israel will react with something even more idiotic, but war does not break out.
*Kim Jong Un takes power with ease in North Korea.
*Global Economy will do equally or slightly less bad as it did this year.
*Former VP Cheney will pass away, with a mixed reaction among Americans. He likely will be remembered as the "Nixon of the 21st century".

I'll try a few predictions:

Obama, Putin and Sarkozy will all win re-election (Mitt Romney was the losing GOP candidate, Trump was running as a major 3rd party candidate, something damaging is revealed about Hollande, enabling a narrow Sarkozy win). Obama wins Missouri this time, but loses Indiana.

China will get the most gold medals in the Olympics.

The Pope will die and be replaced with an African Pope.

Italy wins the EURO by defeating Germany.

The Mars rover called Curiosity will NOT land on Mars.

Green Bay wins the Super Bowl.

The FPÖ will still poll around 25% in the Austrian election polls through most of the year.

Earthquakes will happen in California/Oregon/Washington (bad one), Kenya and Indonesia (moderately ones).

Marlies Schild (Austria) and Ivica Kostellic (Croatia) win the Slalom World Cup, while Mikaela Schiffrin (USA) wins at least 1 race.

Harpers Conservatives in Canada will repeal a gun-registry law, which leads to a spike in future crime. This will lead to a major defeat for them in a later election.

On Sept. 11, 2012 Austria will defeat Germany in the soccer match to be held in Vienna.

"The Dark Knight Rises" will be the most successful film (domestic), followed by "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" and "The Hobbit".

Gregor Schlierenzauer will win the 4-hills jump event.

Not a bold prediction given that it's already basically done, but I doubt the last prediction will come true. We're a stupid bunch of people.

The Pope will die, and some Italian will succeed him.
Obama will win re-election in a close match against Romney, with Pennsylvania deciding it.
The Senate will be 50-50, so the Democrats, due to their Presidential win, keep it, but the Republicans keep the house
Economy will get better
Hollande will win in France by a 55-45 margin
Putin will win re-election

The pope will not die. The Third Great Awakening is going to start. Ron Paul will become the GOP nominee and win unless Obama and congress overturns Roe v Wade. Billy Graham will be a figure to watch.

Repealing it will cause neither of these things to happen.

Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro die.
Obama wins reelection with a similar map of 2008
Lopez Obrador wins in Mexico with PRI a close second.
People will freak out really badly about 12/22/2012 and act surprised when nothing happens.

Fidel Castro dies

Obama wins re-election, and it's not super close... but he performs worse than '08.

Apple will come out with a TV set.  It will be expensive, but it will also be the best TV money can buy and will have a hand in redefining the television experience.

The GOP loses the house by a very narrow margin.

The Dems retain the senate by a paper thin margin.

Obama runs his campaign on a populist note, keeping it about the economy and inequality.  The Dems become more unified for this.

The GOP fractures more as the Tea Party types continue to go rogue against the Romney wing of the party.  For the first time in a very long time, the GOP is less unified than the Dems.

There is much hand-wringing and worrying about Europe... but Europe manages to eek out a minute amount of economic growth.  The stock market does poorly for it.. but most Americans can't be bothered.

2012 becomes the official death-year of the PC.  PC sales continue to plummet as people integrate computers into their everyday life (through phones, wearable items, tablets, and 'smart' appliances/etc.)

Microsoft continues to lose its dominance in the marketplace, though Windows 8 stems the hemorrhaging.

Japanese growth picks up thanks to recovery from last year's earthquake.

Talks begin again later in the year with North Korea and some progress, however fleeting, is made.

I could do more....

Okay, time for a very serious prediction:

Mitt Romney manages to win the Iowa Caucus.  However, his victory would end up being very pyrrhic one due to the amount of resources thrown into the state.  Ron Paul, who finished in a strong second, would have his resources low for the New Hampshire Primary.  Despite Paul's efforts Jon Huntsman, who had been campaigning in New Hampshire for months while everyone else focused on Iowa, manages to score a very decisive victory in the Live Free or Die state.
The victory would give Huntsman a huge boost as he is no longer perceived as an "anti-Romney" moderate and people look at his policy platform that is actually one of the most conservative platforms in the Republican race.  People have finally found their "anti-Romney".
Oh wait........there was also the last minute surge in Iowa of a controversial former Pennsylvania US Senator who got the endorsement of many evangelicals in the state.  This man, Rick Santorum, ends up having his own massive surge in the polls as evangelicals flock to him out of spite to the less socially conservative Romney and Huntsman camps.  Texas Congressman Ron Paul, representing the libertarian anti-war wing of the Republican Party, exceeds expectations and even wins a couple of states.  However, he still falls short in delegate count by the end of the primaries.  However he and his supporters aren't going without a fight.
The race for the Republican nomination goes to the Convention.

In an extremely heated Convention that brought back memories of the controversial 1968 Democratic National Convention the RNC 2012 is remembered for being perhaps the most divisive Republican Convention in US History.  What should be a convention enthusiastic to defeat an unpopular incumbent President is a convention of loud swearing, cat calls, middle fingers, and even a few vicious brawls.  After three ballots (with a record amount of hand wrangling for votes) Mitt Romney ends up getting the nomination that many predicted he was destined to get.  In an attempt to reconcile the unruly convention the Romneyites support the nomination of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal for the Vice Presidential nomination.  Though Jindal wins the nomination the effect was very limited as the Paulite brigade barges out of the building in disgust.  A few days later Ron Paul announces that he's launching an Independent third party bid with former Virginia congressman Virgil Goode as his runningmate.

Former US President Bill Clinton dies in June.  His death, though expected, is a shock to many in that he passes away before his predecessors Jimmy Carter and George HW Bush.  Millions of Americans, on both sides of the aisle, mourn his death.  The Democratic National Convention of 2012, evoking the memory of William J. Clinton, is a somber yet enthusiastic convention that gives the President and fellow Democrats a much needed boost in the polls.

President Barack Obama, despite subpar approval ratings and discontentment at record levels throughout the country, is re-elected President.  Although he won only 44% of the popular vote he managed to win more electoral votes due to the split amongst Republicans in the race.  His over 400 electoral vote victory would draw many comparisons to Woodrow Wilson's enormous electoral landslide in 1912 despite winning only 41% of the popular vote.

The Republicans, due to the fracturing within their own party, lose sixty seats in the US House, in effect almost erasing any gains they made in 2010.  Democrats also manage to pickup a few US Senate seats in light of the civil war within the GOP.  The Democrats, though not excessively popular, are at least seen as having a degree of unity that is almost completely absent from the GOP in 2012.  During an MSNBC interview Rachel Maddow asks Rand Paul that if the shoe was on the other foot would Romney have run third party.  In a moment that would put yet another sting in the GOP's armor Rand Paul would look at her sincerely and answer "no, he would've supported Obama".
The interview doesn't sit well with Romney Republicans one bit as pundits begin predicting that the Republican Party would be split up by the next Congressional elections.

By the end of 2012, not many people, including people on this forum, are certain about the future of the Republican Party.
