So that excuses a totally innocent bystander (who happens to be a little girl) being attacked? Amazing.

FWIW, Santorum is the one who trotted her out in front of the cameras.

Uh, yeah. Families typically stand by each other at these events.

More classless behavior/excuses from the disgusting people.

Just because others have their own views does not make them disgusting people.

Globalizer was simply making an observation, and should not be attacked because of it.

The mocking of that picture wasn't so much for her crying but the general weirdness/creepiness of it. Like how the rest of the family looks, how they are dressed, and the fact that she's obviously dressed the same way as the doll she's holding.

This. The other kids faces add the frosting to it too. The boy seemed overwhelmed and like he didn't know what to do and the girl in the back had that "I don't want to be here" face.

Sarah Maria actually seems more like a Spaniard name. Except it would be spelled without an H.

Well yeah Maria is just the Spanish spelling of the name of the mother of Jesus (of which the Hebrew version is closest to something like "Mariam"), just like "Mary" is for English and "Marie" is for French and German. But that really does add to the hyper-Catholicism.

Perhaps Rick Santorum should have considered the repercussions of dehumanizing tens of millions of Americans.

...then take it out on Santorum, not his little daughter.

I don't really disagree. I just meant that when you give a lot of people a reason to have a visceral hatred for you, the way they take it out will often be more emotional than logical. Politicians should probably keep that in mind when they attack entire demographic groups.

I understand why it happened. This is about how it should never happen.

Ah, ok, I understand. Real men make fun of little girls for their dresses and dolls. Winning argument.

That wasn't the only funny thing about the pic or even the most funny. I find the girl in the back more funny really.

I was always confused by why she got mocked so much while her brother's ridiculously intense stare into the camera was widely ignored.

I can feel him staring into my soul...

Personal attacks against a politician's family are something pretty pathetic indeed. But saying a picture is funny (and come on, could anyone honestly say it's not funny?) isn't the same thing. I don't know what personal attacks you are refering to, but so far I've not seen anything offensive.

Taking the picture in the first place is low but we know what sells. Right after the defeat, the picture was all over the Internet with bloggers commenting on how she "deserved" to cry because of who her father is (do a Google Image search yourself).

Some people have such low feelings of self worth that they have to gang up on a child. I guess I ought to feel worse for them than I did for Santorum's girl.

I remember the gloating from the Democrats (including myself) from when Santorum lost in 2006. I saved an edited picture from those days and have waited all this time for a good opportunity to repost it!

Yeah, that's a stupid little poster that really hurts the case of everyone who wants to just laugh at what's a pretty funny picture. Not all laughter is malicious, although clearly some of those laughing are.

I could be commenting on the color of the walls in my house and Phil would find a way to make it about my support of Ron Paul, his grievances about the treatment of Ye Olde Santorum Family, or both.

It's the predictable reaction.  He'd be a troll if he wasn't a borderline solipsist.

Sorry, dude, but when you're appearing at political gatherings, you are getting your pictures taken. While I don't appreciate mean comments (which is not the same as merely saying it looks funny), as Truman said, if you can't stand a heat, get the hell out of kitchen. And don't bring children there with you.

I'm wondering if you'd even care if it weren't about Santorum.

Santorum could be elected the next President in a landslide and that picture would still be hilarious.

As I mentioned in the opening post, what Rush said about Chelsea was disgusting and that is something that truly bothers me. Believe me or not, that's your choice but that's my sincere feeling.

The extent of the devastating defeat that Santorum experienced was known since the first results started coming in.

Surely these children must have been very upset well before being taken out onto the stage into the public eye.  Knowing this, Santorum and his wife should have left the kids backstage and gone out to face the public themselves, just the two of them, not exposing their upset children to public scrutiny.

Honestly, I just thought the picture was very bizarre. I don't think most kids are that upset if their parent loses an election.

Why do you create so many threads on here just to verbally attack/fight with people? You could have easily just posted the first paragraph and nobody would have given you any serious grief over it.
