Election night 2012:

"....and we can now project Ron Paul has won the election handily with 461 electoral votes..."

Ron Paul / Bobby Jindal: 51% PV; 461 EV
Bernie Sanders / Diane DeGette: 27% PV; 74 EV
Mark Warner / Brian Schweitzer: 22%; 3 EV

Senate races, 2012:

Republicans: 70 (+3)
Democrats: 26 (-9)
Progressives: 7 (+6)

House elections, 2012:

Republicans: 309 (+32)
Democrats: 125 (-46)
Progressives: 83 (+14)

The greatest upset of the night was the defeat of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who, running for re-election as a Democrat, was defeated by San Francisco Mayor Mike Gonzales; the GOP did not field a candidate.

The Time Person of the Year is Bobby Jindal; Time explains that they broke tradition because Jindal proved that skin color was no longer an issue in American politics, because two color vice presidents in a row, a notable occasion worldwide.

Are these guys just up and retiring? From what I know, it's been long settled that you can't remove a sitting justice (Marbury vs. Madison, thanks, history class).

Retiring; Kennedys old, Souter retired Stevens tried to retire earlier but their replacements attempted by Prssident Edwards were filibustered by the strongly GOP senate.

While I don't think that the Republican establishment would get behind Paul that easily, this timeline is awesome nonetheless. I can't wait to see how a 3-party system in America turns out.

Thanks Wink. Most of the party hacks have no option but to vote for him, and he maintained his hold on the Tea Party.  They aren't going to turn around and vote for Warner Wink

"Unf****ing believable!  Who thought, of all people, I'd be both a one-term president and worse still, be succeeded by Ron f*****ing Paul!  God dammit Howard!"

"I told you it wouldn't be a good idea to be campaigner-in-chief even after you dropped out-"

[hurls vase at Dean, who ducks]  "F**** you!  Get the f**** out of here!  Tomorrow you're gone!"

"...and I would like the Congress to repeal the PATRIOT ACT in its entirety, in order to advance the cause of freedom at home and abroad."

"And tonight I ask you to put America back on the Gold Standard, preserving the financial future of thr next generations of Americans!  We repealed the PATRIOT ACT, Bernanke's gone, and now it's time for some real changes in America's fiscal policy!  He knew we meant business, because the day of my inauguration he scampered away with his tail between his legs!"

"Maybe I could make some kind of comeback."

It was long after midnight, and the former president just couldn't sleep.  He'd been rejected by his own party, forced into early retirement, and left without a first lady.  He was being slowly driven mad by his boredom, and his young daughter was without a mother, and, it seemed, without a full-time father.  It was time, the president decided, to make some kind of comeback, and come out against the fiscal insanity of America's newest president...

"The Great Society is dead!  President Paul is throwing a giant Christmas Party for the rich, meanwhile the poor, those in the other America, are being squeezed into silence by the pillow of the President's Right-to-Work laws, dismantling of the Department of Education, and his destruction of the American military.  It is time that we get back to the moderate path in these Americas, and that we press on in spite of President Paul's thumb being slowly pressed against us."

"I really don't pay any attention to my predecessors, to be honest."

"Why's that, Mr. President?"

"Well, because they're the ones who got us in this mess in the first place!  I don't pay attention, but if he wants to face me in four years, I welcome it.  But if they didn't nominate him when he was the sitting president in 2012, I doubt they're going to next time around.  Now listen, I'd love to talk more about politics, but I would prefer to talk about my economic plan, so could we get back to this some other time?"

"I am strongly against the president's nomination of Nadia Nedzel, who will tip the balance of the court far to the right in the wake of Justice Breyer's death, and we need to reduce the politicization of the court!  Her appointment will take us back to the 1890s in civil rights!"

- Progressive Leader Dennis Kucinich

"His fight for liberty is an inspiration to all of us!  This is why I shall grant a full pardon to Bernard von NotHaus, as his Liberty Dollar business harmed no one and in fact showed how out-of-touch those judges were with the American people!"

Roberts Shot Dead in D.C.!  President to Announce new Chief Justice!

"Today is a great tradgedy for the American people.  Today America experienced the first ever assassination of a sitting Supreme Court Justice.  We will mourn the passing of Chief Justice Roberts, and I urge you to vote in favor of the next Chief Justice of the United States, Jesse Ventura!"

"Hey, I thought we were friends you guys! [all laugh] 47 of you f****ers voted against me [roaring laughter]!  But seriously, I'm proud to put the robes on, and I'm proud to be the fifth nominee of President Paul - it took him long enough [all laugh as Senator Ventura steps down from the podium, and walks to shake hands with the President.]

Chief Justice Ventura chooses to be sworn in by President Paul, refusing to take the oath from senior Associate Justice Ginsberg.  He claims this "was just my way of shaking things up a little," as is his Chief Justice's portrait, featuring him in his suit and Seals t-shirt, with a cigar in one hand and a Bud in the other.

Jesse as a Senator maybe, but there's something I don't like about that man, beyond political positions that makes me not want him to be part of our highest court.
