I support Prokhorov, 'cause he is lesser evil. Until he announced, I suppported Yavlinsky.

What is the legal excuse for that decision?

"Bad" signatures. By some accounts - the problems were in the "lists" itself, which were not printed before signature gathering, but simply xeroxed form first printed copy. This led to very high percentage of disqualified signatures, and that, in turn, to Yavlinsky's disqualification...I can't explain very high  percentage (above 20%) of disqualified signatures otherwise.

"He collected 19% over what he needed, so we had to disqualify 20% even though it looks ridiculous. Heck, quite a few of them are genuinely invalid"?

Nobody knows for sure. And, probably, nobody will...

It'll no doubt make the Maine Republican caucus seem like a role model in democracy.

Prediction:

Putin "wins" with about 63.7% of the "fixed" vote.

Ria Novosti has a nice map of the "turnout" and "election results":

Chechenya already with 94% turnout a few hours before polls close !

Could it be that there are a lot of troops voting absentee there who are registered to vote elsewhere in the country, therefore pushing up the turnout numbers in Chechenya ?

Or is it just the usual vote fraud ?

A reporter from derstandard.at (Austrian newspaper) had a pretty good job today:

During the Russian election today, every (?) voting precinct had a webcam monitoring the election process, to avoid fraud. There are about 100.000 or so precincts in Russia.

So, this reporter from the Austrian newspaper watched live videos from precincts on webvybory.ru the whole day and at some point he watched a precinct in the small town of Tarumovka in Dagestan, where election officials stuffed hundreds of filled-out voting sheets into the voting machines. He also made a screenshot:

You can clearly see that the guy on the left is entering at least 2 ballots into the election machine. And it looks like the guy behind him has about 10 sheets in his hand ... Wink

A few exit polls now say 58-60% Putin.

With about 20% counted, Putin has about 62%.

Probably mostly Sibiria yet, with the Western part of Russia being counted later.

Moscow and St. Petersburg will probably push Putin below 60%.

What is it like to cast a vote in an election where you don't know whether your ballot will be "corrected", dumped in the nearest river, compensated for by 10 Putin votes that come out of nowhere or be chosen as one of the few non-Putin ballots the electoral commission has to accept in order to render the result still somewhat believable?
