Lacy Clay effectively inherited his seat, but he's always struck me as more competent than one might expect given that. I could be wrong about that.

Inheriting seats isn't itself some sort of unforgivable evil, it just means that we should subject those office-holders to perhaps a little more scrutiny regarding their credentials and bona fides.
