You don't understand how this works, do you? It doesn't matter who's "ahead" with less than 1% of votes counted.

I remember a few elections ago, the Marxist-Leninist party was leading in a riding in Canada for a good 30 minutes on the strength of a single precinct.

Romney's current lead reminds me of how things used to be in California.  Republicans would always be leading in the first half hour or so do to absentee ballots which used to always swing more conservative.  In the last 10 years or so voting absentee or early has become so much more common that its less of an indicator.   I guess what we are seeing now is a snapshot of the SC electorate a week ago.

I have been watching this primaries since 2008. I understand how it works, I am just wondering why  the networks are making such early calls. Its not like NH where Romney bolted ahead from the start. Exit polling is not always perfect.

Did you ever consider that it matters where the counted votes are coming from?

Wow this is not good for Romney.  I thought it would take some time to call the race, I didn't even know the polls were closed and when I checked the new it showed Gingrich as the projected winner.

I have no idea where they are coming in from, since I have not been watching TV. I saw them call it for Newt on MSNBC, and thats about it. Wow, I can easilly see my annoying troll Congressman being Newts running mate.
