Former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush (R) Announces Presidential Run In Downtown Orlando

September 27, 2015

Thank you, everyone. Thank You.

Our nation is turning a new corner in her history. She faces stagflation. She faces a loss quality in her children's education. She faces grave danger in the form of world conflict. She faces a loss of that one word that has drawn people from around the world to her shores: opportunity.

Behind me, overlooking Lake Ivanhoe, is a replica of the Statue of Liberty. Liberty not only means simply freedom, but also opportunity. Opportunity to work hard, and improve the quality of life for you and your children. The opportunity to make choices in how to best educate your child, which in turn provides your child with more opportunities for his life.

This is what I pledge to you today: I pledge to preserve your opportunities to make a life for your elves and your families. Together, we can get this done. That's why I am asking your support for my candidacy for President of the United States.

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.

Speech in Manchester, New Hampshire on Taxes

October 4, 2015

I believe that taxes should be lower, flatter, and fairer. That's why I would support a tax plan similar to the one proposed by the Bowles-Simpson Commission that the President conveniently ignored to score political points with his base. Within the month, my campaign will release details concerning taxpayers' rate. What I can tell you is that it will help bring industry back to States like New Hampshire, and make it profitable to invest in America again.

Speech in Concord, New Hampshire October 7, 2015 on Cap-and-Trade

The Senate is now entertaining Cap-and-Trade, or should I say "Cap-and-Tax." Depsite the best of intentions, industry will suffer tremendously. The only ones who will benefit will be those who sell carbon credits. We are seeing an attempt to turn Carbon into Gold.

No one is disputing that we should be stewards of our environment. But I'm confident that those in the private sector know that neither they or their customers benefit from a polluted earth. They're not stupid. Companies that show they are environmentally responsible will be rewarded by thier consumers in the form of increased profit.

If we are to preserve opportunity for upstarts, as well as our quality of life, we need to give the private sector breathing room, or better yet, get off its back.

Jeb Bush Interview with Fox News Sunday

Chris: Hello, and welcome to Fox News Sunday. Today, we're interviewing Former Governor of Florida, and current presidential candidate Jeb Bush, whose late entry in the game has upset the poll standing of some of the other contenders from the Sunshine State.

But Let's go to Governor Bush, whose streaming live from Londonderry, New Hampshire. Governor, great to have you on the program.

Jeb: Thanks, Chris. It's rather cold up here, but we're holding up.

Chris: I know how you feel, sir. I've been up there myself during the primary season.

But enough of the pleasantries, the first question I want to ask you is why did you decide to run?

Jeb: Well, Chris, I took a look at the field, and I took a look into myself. You know, we have an incredible field of candidates: any one of them would make a great president. But I noticed that few were talking about the decline in the number of opportunities for many Americans that have occured in the past seven years, and unfortunately, none of the other candidates are really making that case to the American people.

My whole term as Governor was to create opportunites for success economically, particularly when it came to education reform and school choice. You know, education also needs to be a major focal point of this campaign just like the economy or our standing in the world, because education affects both of those tremendously.

Chris: Let's answer some questions you know will be asked of during the campaign. First, your name. Your brother's approval rating has inched up in the past few years. Still, people are going to try to tie you to your brother in large part because of you last name. Do you think you have a problem there?

Jeb: First, I'm not ashamed of my name. My father and brother served to the best of their abilities, and I believe that history will look more favoribly on their presidencies. Second, I'm not worried because I don't think the American people will care about someone's family more than their performance and charecter.

Chris: Now you will be hit on the right, not so much for your last name but for your willingness to appear with President Obama. Let's put those pictures on the screen:

Chris: Laura Ingraham on her radio show,.last week, criticized you for going to the trouble of appearing to friendly with the president. Could that harm you with GOP voters?

Jeb: Perhaps. As for the first one, I agreed to appear with the President back in 2011 because we agreed on education reform. Such an issue transcends party politics, and I know voters understand that.

With the second picture, my father and I made a courtesy call back in 2012 because that was proper etiquette because of the nature of my father's position. That doesn't mean I agree with the president on most things, and it doesn't mean I was trying to warm up to the president. I was merely giving the proper respect due to his position as president.

Chris: One more thing before we let you go: what qualifies more than your other Republican rivals for the presidency?

Jeb: All of the Republican candidates are more than qualified to be president. What I have to offer is that I have been elected twice as governor of a swing state, a state that has not reelected a Republican for governor since reconstruction. I have had the most executive experience of any of the other candidates in the field, not only implementing much needed reform, but also managing a crisis during Hurricane Charlie. I am a Provence conservative in akk areas

Jeb Bush Press Conference

Reporter 1: Governor, what di you make of your fronteunner status?

Jeb: I would not say I am the frontrunner. I may lead in national lolls, but it's still competitive in the early States. I'm going to continue to campaign aggressively, as if I were trailing.

Reporter 2: Sir, what do you make of Christie's remarks at the Reagan Library concerning you, that said that your nomination would be the best thing for the GOP moving forward because of your name?

Jeb: Look, Christie is a friend of mine, and I respect him as a person. As to what he said, he's entitled to say what he believes is best for our party and our nation. After.all, he's runnning for president.

Ultimately, it's too early. I'm more worried about the what the voters.are.feeling than any intraparty squabble. The voters will decide whether Christie, or I, or someone else will lead the Republicans to victory next year.

What I can promise you is that I will wholeheartedly support whomever our nominee is.

Reporter 3: Governor, what do you think will happen now that he Senate has passed cap-and-trade, and the House has passed a similar version with many amendments.

Jeb: I think that cap-and-trade is the wrong way to approach any environmental crises we may be experiencing. I believe that indiviguals know.how to take care of the environment than a bureaucracy or plan drawn up by the bureaucracy.

Corporations, as a way to draw in business, will work to show their customers their environmental awareness. Those corporations will go to great lengths to show the ways they work to protect and preserve the earth, if only to remain competitive for the public's patronage.

One thing we don't talk about in regards to Cap-and-Trade is that many of these businesses, especially industrial ones, will move to places such as China because of the stifling business market here.

Jeb Bush Debate

1) If I may step in...
I believe we are stepping into dangerous territory when we begin criticising the Supreme Court on decisions they made, especially if we seek the office of president.

Do I believe the court has made bad decisions, yes. Do I agree with every decision the court has made, no. But we must be careful not to cross any lines concerning seperation of powers. After all, the President rightly received criticism when he chastised the Supreme Court during a State of the Union Address

As to the type of judges I would appoint, I agree with my colleagues on stage is that I would appoint judges that would rule from a strict-constructionist approach.

2) Congressman West is correct in linking our current rate of inflation with the actions of the Federal Reserve. But, remember, they print money like mad in order to lessen the value of the dollar in order to reduce the value of the debt. Not only should we demand more accountability from the Fed, but also make a concerted effort to reduce our spending so as not to lay the burden of our debt on the Fed.

3) No one can say for sure what they would do if they were in a hypothetical situation until they are.actually in it. I would, however, have already solidified our relations with India before having to go through any such scenario.

What I can assure you is that I have had experience in dealing with crisis situations. I worked with FEMA before, during, and after several hurricanes hit our state.

Jeb Bush Press Conference, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

On Recent Surge

For the first in the campaign, we are tied for first in Iowa, and enjoy a substantial lead, outside the margin of error, nationally. We believe our message of economic, social, and educational opportunity is resonating with the electorate.

We are not taking for this granted: we are more committed than ever to improving our ground game and spreading our message in Iowa and New Hampshire. We're confident that we can win both States.

I will take questions.

Reporter 1: Here in Iowa, you are tied with Governor Sandoval. Do you have any thing to say concerning him?

Jeb: Only that he is perhaps one of the best governors that Nevada ever had. He has provided competent leadership for a state that has suffered the most from the President's failed economic policies. America could use a man like him.

Reporter 2: So far, you have failed to present a clear foriegn policy. You didn't even answer the

.

Jeb: Hold it. In regards to my answer to the debate question, I am not willing to answer any hypothetical scenario regarding a crisis. No one knows how he would act in any crisis situation until he is in it. Now I've dealt with crisis situation in the past, but even that doesn't fully prepare you for dealing with what could be a major conflict.

I have stated that I believe we need to deepen our ties with India. Not only as a trading partner, but also as an ally on the war against terrorism. But even then, I don't know how that would effect my decesion as commander-in-chief. By then, I would know more in military and diplomatic intelligence to make the best decision.

Reporter 3:  Although your chief rival as of now is Sandoval, do you think that Christie might be the largest threat to your lead?

Jeb: No one is a "threat." As I have said, both Christie and Sandoval are competent governors who would ne great presidents. What I'm trying to do is to convince the American people that I'm the best one to lead the party.

Thank you very much.

Jeb Bush, Debuque, Iowa, November 1, 2015,

Over the past few days, a lot has happened. Congress is on the verge of passing, what I believe to be, a large, job-killing measure that would harm more small-businesses, particularly upstart manufacturers, than help. We are spending more money than ever on education, but are recieving little in results. Confusion is abundant concerning our tax code; you know there's a problem when it becomes more expensive to hire a tax lawyer or accountant to find all the possible deductions than to pay to simply pay your taxes without those deductions.

All of these crises, and more are working to kill what draw, and continues to draw people of all races, creeds, religions, and colors to this great nation: opportunity. Unless we reverse course NOW, it will be difficult to restore those things we hold dear as Americans-upward mobility, opportunity, and liberty-will soon vanish.

That is why we are announcing my seven point plan to restore opportunity. The American people are smart: they know how to take care of themselves. They know what's best for their children. They know where they want to go in pursuing of the American Dream.

We call this plan simply: The Seven Points.

The Seven Points

1) Flatten Tax Rates: With so much confusion in our tax code, the American people need a simpler, fairer tax rate. We propose to flatten the tax rate into two tiers of 15% for most Americans, and 25% for those with higher incomes. These new rates would only have deductions for marriage, charity, and state and local taxes. The corporate tax rate would be reduced to 10%, and the Alternative Minimum and Capital Gains taxes would be eliminated.

2) Education:Despite our spending more money on the education of our children more than any other nation, America's children still suffer from a lack of quality education. We propose that PELL Grants for private schools be extended to children in inner cities throughout the country. Public schools would be forced to compete, and find new, innovative ways to approach educational problems. We would encourage the states to pursue similar measures.

3) Immigration: Our immigration system is broken. Our stringent immigration system punishes legal immigrants, while our weak immigration enforcement rewards illegal immigrants. To fix this, we would first secure the border, using a fence, at certain points enforced by military personnel. Second, we would make it easier for guest workers by granting five-year "red-cards" using private contractors. Not only till we do these two things should we consider any paths to citizenship for resident, illegal aliens.

4) Energy: North America has abundant energy resources unlike any nation has had before. Yet, we are still beholden to foriegn nations hostile to us for our energy resources. We believe that new methods such as "fracking," and the discovery of oil sands in Canada would bring down oil prices, and make America free of foriegn oil.

5) Inflation and Debt: Inflation has increased dramatically during the Obama Administration. The Congress has spent our children's future while the Federal Reserve has inflated the dollar in order to lighten our enormous debt. Because of this, spending and inflation are tied, but spending is the prime cause of our economic predicament. Therefore, we would work toward a balanced budget, and actively work to discretionary spending where ever we can without affecting our national defense. Thus, the Federal Reserve will not have the need to inflate away our currency.

6: Entitlement Reform: Although cutting discretionary spending will help us balance our books in the near term, entitlements will drive our debt upward in the long term. We would reform Social Security to include a private IRA account option for younger Americans. Also, Medicare and Medicaid would be funded in the forms of block grants to the states, allowing the indivigual state to experiment in how these entitlements could be reformed and work in their states.

7: Respect Federalism: All of the above points have included measures that the Federal government can do to turn this economy around. However, meaningful change really begins on the local level. We would work to remove the burden of regulation requirements on the states, and return to a system of federalism envisioned by the Founding Fathers.

Jeb Bush Press Conference, Waterloo, Iowa

Reporter 1: What do you think of Governor Christie calling your brother "not a real conservative? "

Jeb: Governor Christie, first of all, is entitled to his opinion. Second, I admit my brother did stray. But he did what he thought was right. He shouldn't have to apologize for it.

Reporter 2: What then distinguishes you from your brother.

Jeb: You might have to ask my mother about that.

laughter

Jeb: Seriously, I have governed over a swing state, and won reelection as governor of a state that didn't reelect a republican governor since Reconstruction. I worked with the state legislature to pass meaningful reform intl the areas of education and taxes. Yes, I tend to be a little more conservative than George, but we still eat at the same table.

Reporter 3: Your lead nationally seems to be slipping, as well as your position in Iowa.  Are you worried that Christie's attacks are working?

Jeb: I don't think that the evening out of the polls means we're losing ground. We expected this to happen since we started the campaign. As for Christie, I don't think his "attacks" as you put them are affecting us at all.

Reporter 4: What are some differences between you and Governor Christie?

Jeb: Christie had an unenviable position as governor of a failing state. He tried his best to turn that state around. But he refused to run for reelection in the face of defeat in perhaps landslide proportions.

Christie has not the best record as a conservative either. The NRA has criticized his support of gun control laws, strict laws. Christie has also embraced global warming and a regional version of "Cap-and-Trade."

He also has a tendency to make himself the center of attention. There is a difference between being bold and being over-dramatic. He tends to be the latter. That bombastic attitude might work on Jersey Shore, bit not in an election or in the White House.

Jeb Bush Rally, Patriots Point at Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

Thank you, South Carolina.

Cheering

Thank You. Man, it's a beautiful day here in South Carolina. Man, the song was right: "Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning."

Cheering

Also, I'm privileged to be here at Patriots Point. Here, where the USS Yorktown currently serves as a tribute to those who have died to make liberty a reality for not only those who already had it, but for those who were under the boot of totalitarianism.

Cheering

South Carolina is a very important state. As we have seen, whoever wins South Carolina goes on to win the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

Cheering

We need your help. All eyes will be on South Carolina in a few months, and you all can make it or break it for any candidate. We need to have you on board if we are going to go toe-to-toe with Gillibrand next year.

We have many people saying "We don't need to go back."

Booing

We have people on both sides, who have scant records, who want to make the race about someone's name, rather than their ideas or character.

Booing

But that's okay. That just exposes how weak their own candidacies are. One thing's for sure, I promise never to make Christie's name an issue in this campaign.

Laughter

Now, I believe I may have made a mistake. Yes, my friends, I believe I have been to hard on Governor Christie regarding Jersey Shore. The Show's producers would never have considered him for a role since he vetoed a tax credit the show.

Laughter

So, Governor, for that I apologize.

Laughter, Applause

Seriously, we need to run a campaign based on ideas, rather than entertainment. We need to have a serious discussion on how we can bring America back from the brink instead of how a person's name disqualifies him from being a serious candidate. We need someone who will work to get things done rather than to do things to gain attention in the spotlight.

I offer myself as that candidate who will run on character, issues, and getting things done.

We are losing our opportunity, and our universal "right to rise." This is not a TV show. We need to show the American people we are serious in fixing the problems our country is facing with the threat to individual liberties from every side.

One thing I can guarantee to you, I will fight every step of the way for a nation to rewards hard work, instead of punishing it. A nation that treasures life, instead of degrades it. A nation that stands for freedom, and will look evil in the eye, and will fight evil like the brave men and women that gave their lives for our freedom instead of appeasing evil, and remaining in our shell.

America is ready-You know it, and I know it-for someone who stands for life, liberty, and opportunity for all! And with your help, we can do this.

Cheering

To further make our case, I accept Governor Christie's offer of an open debate. Then, we will let the voters decide who should be our standard bearer next year.

Cheering

How dare you force people to laugh and applause!

Update will come later. I'm at the library doing some work now, but I have some head-to-head match ups for you as well as some more narrative. Just FYI, I'm saving the exciting dystopian (or utopian) narrative for the general election....although this Pakistan/Iran/India/Afghanistan thing will be very exciting as well.

I meant laughter, followed by applause.

Just the same, don't discredit the voters of South Carolina. They could laugh and applaud at the same time if they wanted to. Wink

Jeb Bush, Greenville, South Carolina on Social Issues

When our nation was founded over 200 years ago, our Founding Fathers either had, or were influenced by, a distinctive, Judeo-Christian worldview. Their beliefs that came from the Word of God reinforced their classical liberal views on the dignity of the individual. Because they believed that's man was made in God's image, the Founders thus believed that each and every person was imputed with "certain inalienable rights" by his Creator. "That among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." True, we have not always lived up to those standards, but we strive continuously as a nation to make that ideal a reality.

Unfortunately, in the past seven years, those ideals of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" have been under continual assault. The Obama Administration has held these ideals in contempt in an attempt to remake society in a new image.

"Life," arguably the most sacred right of all, has been tossed aside. All insurance companies have been forced to pay for contraceptives and "morning after" abortion pills. Contrary to any flimsy executive order, abortions will be funded by federal dollars. Although dismissed as mere hoaxes, so-called "death-panels" end of life counseling will lead to the rationing of care, that occurs rampantly in places such as the United Kingdom.

"Liberty" has also taken a hit with the Administration insisting that Catholic and other religious institutions comply with its insistence that such institutions should cover contraceptives. Even on the local level, religious institutions concerning adoption have been forced to close their doors since local governments, such as in D.C.,  because such adoption centers believe that a child should have the benefit of a mother AND a father. Even military chaplains are discouraged, if not out right prohibited, from invoking the name of Christ at military functions.

The "Pursuit of Happiness," although not considered a social issue, affects spiritual liberty as well. Ronald Reagan once noted that when governments attempt to control the economy, they really control people. Liberals believe they can have a centrally planned economy without infringing on the rights of individuals. Little do they realize that when the government guarantees your healthcare, your house, your paycheck, or any other necessity of life, they will find that they are beholden to the same entity that provided for them, and will have very little opportunity to pursue happiness.

My friends, I realize that I have painted a dower image of what we as Christians and Americanists face. But we can take our society back. We can end the war on religion, and guarantee that our God-given rights are not infringed upon, from the womb to the tomb. We can secure for oursleves and our posterity these rights. We must, can, and will fight to restore the American promise of Life's Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, with the help of God. I ask that you continue to pray for God's hand of protection and guidance over my family as well as the other candidates. I also ask that you continue to pray for our nation as we enter this election: that God will rise up the right person to lead our nation.

Thank you; God bless you; and God bless the United States of America.

Hold on, what happened in the 2012 election? If we're going to make historical references, we should at least be consistent. Or has this been mentioned?

Jeb Bush Debate Responses

1) President Obama effectively bungled our effort in Afghanistan. Look, Afghanistan was not the mistake: the mistake was not having a coherent strategy. Instead of focusing on eradicating the Taliban, we felt more obliged to restrain our fighting men and women, and indulge in nation building rather than focusing on the enemy.

I know some will try to use this forum as an opportunity to take potshots at my brother, who began our involvement in Afghanistan. But the President effectively undermined out effort in what was the "Good War" by preventing generals such as McChrystal from making critical decisions by dithering on the surge, and then declaring victory and going home.

Afghanistan was a cause that needed not be lost. We could have achieved a lasting victory by empowering our troops to defeat the enemy, and thus our men and women could have come home with their heads held high.

If Afghanistan becomes radicalized, and becomes a threat to interests to the United States, I would support sending troops back in if the situation warranted it.

2) We all on this stage salute the late Congressman Paul for his service.to his country in the military as well as the halls of Congress. He will be missed.

I did disagree with his non-interventionist attitude. That sort of thinking leads to a diminished America abroad. As a power, we may not be the "policeman of the world," we do have a moral obligation to confront Evil when it rears its ugly head.

As with the current conflict between India and Iran, we do need to tread lightly. Clearly, we need to increase our ties with India, an upcoming superpower. While we need to be careful in this situation, we don't need to simply ignore it, saying "it's not our fight." Due to some of our economic ties with India, and Iran's animosity toward us, we need to not only monitor the situation, but to provide logistical support foe India if need be.

As far as Pakistan goes, we need to pressure the Pakistanis to stay out of the conflict. We can do that by using our already copious aid to them as leverage.

3) I agree with Congressman West: cyberspace terrorism is just that, terrorism. We need to pursue such cyber terrorist groups such as Anonymous height all available means. We want no more Wikileaks, or Assanges, or Manningses, or Anonymouses using the Internet as a means to threaten our national security. We ought to send a clear, unequivocal message that we will not tolerate cyber terrorists, period.

Statement from Jeb Bush Campaign

We are pleased with polling that currently shows that Former Governor Jeb Bush currently has the best chance of beating Senator Gillibrand in a head-to-head match up. We believe the former governor's ideas and character have contributed to this early lead. We do not plan to let up, as we continue to aggressively promote our ideas to restore opportunity in our society that is key to the American way of life.

We also plan to begin buying air time in New Hampshire for a commercial comparing the records of Former Governors Christie and Bush, and promoting the latter's ideas for restoring opportunity.

Bobby Jindal endorses Jeb Bush

Goose evening. I have been watching the race for quite some time now. And out of all the candidates, there has been only on whom I believe could reclaim the White House next year. That man is my dear friend, Jeb Bush.

Governor Bush has, by far, the best experience of anyone in the field. His example has been a model for every Republican governor, including myself. Governor Bush is an all-around conservative: he has worked to protect life, cut taxes, and reform education. He commands great dignity, and, as polls suggest, could hold his own against Senator Gillibrand.

We as a nation cannot afford to allow the Democrats four more years of free reign in the White House. We need someone with the credibility, experience, and the ideas to help us win in 2016; and I believe Jeb Bush is that man./i]
