MODERATE PARTY

Founding of the Moderate Party on the condition of the dissolution of the JCP and RPP

The Moderate Party is a right of centre, classically liberal party. We believe that the best state for any person, family or community in the pursuit of happiness is one that allows for individual freedoms to be expressed. We believe that society is progressive and that it changes through the increased interaction with and understanding of others. We support progressive social freedoms. We support the principles of a welfare state to assist those who are vulnerable and wish to better themselves and their families. We are committed to fighting the causes of poverty through lowering tax, not through raising credit. We believe in a progressive taxation system that lifts the poorest out of paying tax altogether. We are supportive of community solutions to local problems. We believe in an internationalist foreign policy and an interventionist policy to protect the rights of people to express themselves. We welcome peoples of all social status, all genders and sexualities, all faiths, beliefs and those who hold no faith or belief but the belief in humanity itself.

Well it's a yellow circle with an 'M' partly inspired by the Swedish Moderate Party.

As a voter of dissolution, I really hope a number of different parties emerge.  I am a little concerned about the state of affairs right now, but I am happy this party which is in line with my beliefs exists (and hopefully becomes a force in Atlasian politics).  Thus:

I'll give it a try, even though I can't support the foreign policy bit in the platform.

I am intrigued by your party, but can you tell me what this sentence means?  I am not sure what you mean by 'not through raising credit'.

It's admittedly not clear. It means that the best way to tackle poverty and to assit low income earners is to remove them from the tax system, rather than tax them but give them money back through tax credits or welfare.

The Moderates are a continuation of the DA; we are further to the right on economics that the Liberals I would assume.

From what I can tell, there are those who have personal problems with members of the Liberal Party who are unwilling to man up and put them aside; and so want to join an identical party that does not have the person or persons they dislike.

The Moderates seem to be to the right of the Liberals economically.

I don't reach that conclusion.

Or, the three of us are cautious of joining a party that has grown so large over-night.  I may still join the party, but I'd like to see how the parties play out for a few days.  Of course, campaign donations and gifts (off the record, obviously) might convince me.

I would make that nifty $500,000 donation, but I think I dropped the briefcase I was carrying it in somewhere in your office. Wink

But, is 13 members large? I don't think so.

I thought you had 15 members. Anyways, I'd welcome dialogue between the Whig-Communitarian Party and the Moderate Party.

I can't speak for the others, but personality is never the only reason for a decision.  Cinci's rights, I hope we don't end up with two large parties.  As I have stated before, and as Bgwah has stated before, the ideal system would be a far left, far right, center right, center left, and maybe a libertarian party.  I see the Liberals as the center left and am hoping this party can be the center right.

Additionally, while the platform of the Liberals appears fairly centered, I feel it is a bit too to the left for me.  I was a former DAer and am alum of the Duke wing of the RPP, so while I am center on many issues, economically I am right.  Quite frankly, the Liberals do not seem to be a good fit for me.  This does and I hope it survives.

I'm afraid that will result in essentially the same old JCP vs RPP but with new names. Center left and left would work together and the center right and right would work together and we are left with the same thing we tried to move on from.

From what I can tell, this is how it shakes out:

Far left: Social Democratic Union (name subject to change)
Center left: Liberal Party
Center right: Moderate Party
Far right: Communitarian Party
Libertarian: Individual Freedom Party
Socialist: WSRP
Regional: United Imperial Front

I dont think so.  Depending on the issue or race, the two center parties might even work together or play an honest broker.  Even if they do work together, at least there are multiple parties and real discussion.  Having everyone join the Liberal Party seems to just create a big tent party, which is what I am trying to avoid.  I want smaller parties with real positions on the issues, not just parties that try to win an election.
