I really liked the experience last time round, and I'd really like to give this another go. Anyone else feeling like playing along?

(And to clarify what really should be obvious: I'm not offering to be GM, as I've exactly 3 moves experience with the game Wink)

Yes.  I've been a GM before, but I don't want to be one now.

Are you implicitly volunteering for GM, here?

I'd like to give it a try, but I've never played before. Is that okay?

Right now, you don't Wink We still have to find someone to play GM. I have PM'ed PiT who said he'd be willing to do so, but that he's afraid he won't manage to fit it into his roster. So preferrably someone else will step forwards to volunteer, or otherwise I''ll have to spam anyone who I think might know the game well enough to play GM.

If you want to get a grasp of the game rules, there are plenty of online rulebooks which will pop up if you google 'Diplomacy rules'. The game board would be posted in the game thread and you'd have to PM your orders every turn to the GM.

Hope that answers your questions.

Is there a spot left for me?

EDIT: I'd prefer not to arbitrate, but if that's all that's left, I can do that, too.

For those that haven't played before put all your trust in me Diplomacy is pretty intuitive but it usually requires you experiencing a full game or two to truly understand what you're doing.

A few pieces of beginner's advice:

1.  Be 80-90% honest in your communications with people.  If you're flat-out lying all the time, people don't trust you.  If you're a good, faithful ally who sticks by your friends for years on end, they won't expect the knife in the back.

2.  Don't be so eager to claim one particular Supply Center that you forget that the goal is to get 18 of them.  Strategy, not tactics, wins.

3.  Don't draw Italy or Austria.

So far we have:

1. Me
2. Yelnoc
3. Teddy
4. Oakvale
5. PR
6. Mikado
7. Dr. Cynic

but no GM. So that's what we might have to focus on next. Perhaps I should PM both muon and Lewis to see wheter they may be interested, as well?

The GM need not actually fully understand everything, so long as a few of the players do. Programs like realpolitik/realworld can do all the adjudication.

I prefer jDip.  Cleaner, easier to read map (albeit slightly inaccurate when it comes to borders).

If there's still a spot open, I'd be interested in playing. Smiley

I've been fascinated with this game before, but would some one mind actually explain how the game works. I know, I've read all the previous posts, but I like to have everything listed out clearly and all together. Smiley

Not at this juncture in time.

I'll watch, of course.

This is the board game, only done on a forum Tongue I'd love to play against you. If you've played a while ago you must have some interesting stories. I've spoken to a lot of historic people on e-mail, even got one from Callhamer, and had a little discussion with Edi Birsan, and even a chat with ry4an brase (as his name was at the time)

Since there's so much enthusiasm from newcomers and no one volunteering to adjudicate, if Belgian wants I could do the adjudication and let someone else take my game slot.

Note that I'm fairly busy these days and if I'm adjudicating I'd prefer turns once every 5 days or so rather than a faster pace.

Computer programs can adjudicate for you, and if the deadline is 5 days, I wont be able to play, sorry.

I must be thinking of some thing else... I am talking about a board game where each player as pieces and rolls dice to attack others...
