Is there a spot left for me?

EDIT: I'd prefer not to arbitrate, but if that's all that's left, I can do that, too.

For those that haven't played before put all your trust in me Diplomacy is pretty intuitive but it usually requires you experiencing a full game or two to truly understand what you're doing.

A few pieces of beginner's advice:

1.  Be 80-90% honest in your communications with people.  If you're flat-out lying all the time, people don't trust you.  If you're a good, faithful ally who sticks by your friends for years on end, they won't expect the knife in the back.

2.  Don't be so eager to claim one particular Supply Center that you forget that the goal is to get 18 of them.  Strategy, not tactics, wins.

3.  Don't draw Italy or Austria.

Since there's so much enthusiasm from newcomers and no one volunteering to adjudicate, if Belgian wants I could do the adjudication and let someone else take my game slot.

Note that I'm fairly busy these days and if I'm adjudicating I'd prefer turns once every 5 days or so rather than a faster pace.

I've had a rough week, but I'm still on board for adjudicating.  Once a week moves (with faster turns for retreat/build phases), I think.

Will put the thread up Saturday, probably.

OK, about to start the thread, but I need clarification on one thing: who are the final seven people that will be playing?  There have been some withdrawals etc.

So, I'm seeing Yelnoc, Barnes, Belgian, Cynic, with Oakvale and ProgressiveRealist as probably playing.  Who's my 7th?

I'm writing up a proper OP for this thread as Cynic hasn't played before so I want to lay out all of the rules and such.

Question: does this program's map look OK to you guys?

Again, assuming we have Belgian, Cynic, Yelnoc, Barnes, Oakvale, and Progressive Realist, we need one more.

Why not use jDip?  Looks better than RealPolitik and has better contrast then that map.

That...is a really good idea.

Just tried, jDip works like a charm.  Tomorrow expect a jDip map in my official thread.

Belgian, would you mind closing this thread so we can shift chatter over to the official thread?  It's a bit attention-starved.

So people are aware, yes, the game's afoot.  Players, if you're not already PMing each other with hot intrigue, I'd suggest doing so.
