He would look even weaker than he already is.  If he backs off this early after all the talk about going to the convention he will appear to be weaker than he already is.  Although he would probably try to desperately explain his backing off by saying for the good of the party

I'll believe that when it happens. Not before.

If it happens, I imagine Santorum will get a big boost.

Absurd. The south hasn't voted. Feb was stacked by the party to go to Romney. The fight hasn't begun.

Chuck Todd compared Gingrich holding out for Dixie (which was debunked by National Journal a couple of days ago, BTW) to Hillary waiting for March last cycle. If you lose most, or in Gingrich's case, all of February, then your fundraising dries up and the inevitability argument solidifies into granite. Apart from Georgia, Oklahoma and Tennessee, where is Gingrich going to win until Alabama and Mississippi vote on March 13? Is he really going to stay in (or more accurately, will Adelson let him stay in) with 14 losses before Super Tuesday?

Uh... Clinton held out until March and then won Texas and Ohio anyway.

45 STATES TO GO?

Has he finally come back from the moon, and now realizes it is not possible to compete with a morally/financially bankrupt campaign?

No, the race will be over if Newt drops out. MSM won't even spend much time covering the contests.

As opposed to Romney continuing his morally bankrupt, financially adequate campaign?

Any word on if the jmfcsts are going to officially endorse Romney since Santorum and Paul were virtually last on the pecking order?

At least Romney knows how to budget properly!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/04/nevada-caucus-2012-live-_n_1254067.html#77_gingrich-releases-postcaucus-schedule

LAS VEGAS -- When it was announced that Newt Gingrich would hold a press conference, rather than give a speech, Saturday night after the Nevada caucuses close, there was some speculation that the former House speaker would be bowing out of the race.

It would have been a bizarre way to go about exiting the campaign. Gingrich has been saying for days that he's staying in the race, perhaps even until the convention. And it's not as if his prospects in Nevada have slipped so dramatically that is being forced to re-assess -- his chance at victory here, after all, was always remote.

Sure enough, Gingrich's campaign put any chatter to rest soon thereafter by releasing next week's schedule, showing him travelling through Colorado, Minnesota, and Ohio before ending up at the CPAC convention in Washington D.C.

The schedule is below:
Monday, February 6th Golden, CO - 11:30 a.m. - Newt 2012 Rally Golden, CO - 2:00 p.m. - Address the Colorado Energy Summit

St. Paul, MN - 8:00 p.m. - Newt 2012 Rally
Tuesday, February 7th

Ohio - Newt & Callista will campaign in Cincinnati, Dayton & Columbus. Early voting for Ohio’s March 6th primary begins February 7th.
Wednesday, February 8th

Cleveland, OH - TBD - Newt 2012 Rally
Friday, February 10th

Washington, DC - 4:00 p.m. – Newt set to give remarks to CPAC 2012 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
