I grew up as a catholic and my grandparents were/are uber-religious and catholic. When I was about seven years old they gave me this book on the story of "Our Lady of Fatima". I had nightmares for weeks/months because the whole premise of it scared the s--- out of me. Interestingly enough while I was on youtube, I found an interesting link that has an interesting spin, saying that it was essentially all a fraud:

Believe it or not, but that chunk of "real cross" at St Random's Church of the Holy Hand Grenade is also a hoax.

I recall one of stemwinder of a religious tract that claimed that statues of Our Lady of Fatima labeled "Fatima" were a ruse designed to lure Muslims who thought the statues were of Mohammad's daughter.  This was in preparation for Islamo-Catholic merger into a worldwide religion to pave the way for the Antichrist.
