Describing Mohammed Morsi as "pharaonic" is pretty hilarious, considering every fact about him.

Unless the title of the thread is instead implying that modern Egypt's lack of strong democratic structures is somehow a result of Egyptian rulers from thousands of years ago. Which is also hilarious.

I'll backtrack when I see proof that he is genuinely interested in handing off the powers that he has assumed back to the other branches of government.  Which I am not optimistic he will, having once tasted them.  You know the phrase, 'Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely'?  It can happen to the best of us -why should Morsi be any different?

There's no reason to assume that Morsi has a democratic bone in his body, but there's also no reason to assume that Egypt's lack of democratic structures (both actual and mental, so to speak) has anything to do with the bronze age.

That constitution doesn't seem unexpectedly or even expectedly bad as such, assuming (a big if) it's enforced roughly as written, but that's more a reflection of the less-than-ideal current state of affairs than anything else.

Keep in mind, whatever they drafted had to be sufficiently watered down to be able to pass a nationwide referendum.  Even if they'd wanted to, they couldn't have written a constitution that would turn Egypt into a Sunni version of Iran, because it wouldn't get enough votes.

In any case, while many judges have called for a boycott, the supreme court seems to have cleared the way for the referendum to take place:

So there will be a referendum on the 15th, and we'll see where things go from there.

Why are you repeating me?  Didn't I just post the article?

At least he didn't unnecessarily duplicate a whole thread.

Let's try this again...

Apparently Morsi had second thoughts about having such dictatorial powers:
