"Barring some big shift in tonight's calls Santorum will be up by 10-15 in the Michigan poll"

I've had enough of PPP spoiling results over their tweeter. Zogby would never spoil results like this. Please ban PPP from the database if they insist on using the tweeter.

IF, I repeat, IF this comes to pass... it will be the epic Romney-fail...

As PPP dude points out, Gingrich also led in Florida shortly after winning South Carolina.

Alcon, that's a good point, but this is Romney's other home state we're talking about. I don't think Santorum's lead holds up -- the onslaught of Romney SuperPAC attack ads will be swift and brutal. I don't know how Santorum raises enough money to keep his image intact.

Guess it's Death Star time again.

Edit: Also, if Santorum is up double digits in Michigan I'm very interested in how Arizona looks.

I've said this elsewhere on here. I really don't think Romney can afford to destroy Rick like he did Newt. People like Rick. and The Religious Right is already weary of Romney with out him destroying their favorite child.

Fair point. Destroying Gingrich (who was unpopular enough already) nuked Romney's favorables and he hasn't really bounced back. He can't afford to do it again and go into the general.

Yeah, you'd have to imagine that Romney'd be down there as well. True, Santorum is a much more attractive option in Michigan than in Arizona, but I can't see why the typical GOP voter in Arizona would choose Mitt over him either. Mormons can't make up more than, what, 15% of the GOP electorate in Arizona? Their presence may not be negligible, but Mitt's going to need a lot more than the Mormon vote here, I imagine.

Yeah, but... if he doesn't destroy Santorum there's a real chance that he's going to lose the nomination. Even if ruins his own favourables, if wants to be the nominee he needs to take aim at (...) The Fighter.

Especially as the two main things he can go negative about are earmarks, and the idea that Santorum is "too conservative". Attacking with the former can only get him so far, attacking with the latter would backfire horribly. Santorum is far less vulnerable to negative advertising than Gingrich.

If Santorum is up 15 points in Michigan, he may be leading AZ by 5-8 points, too. Poor Romney, he'll have to spend too much money.

Note to Mittens: much like positions, claiming multiple homestates dimishes each one.
