Obviously there's virtually zero chance MI would go Republican, but this is more evidence that Santorum is a considerably better general election candidate than Romney.

Um... is it time to start ironically supporting Mitt Romney?

Governor Bernero agrees.

Ironically, Mitt Romney was everything we ironically painted him out to be.

Tell me again how Mitt Romney is a better general election candidate and can make states like MI into battlegrounds.

Money and less ideological extremities.

When it comes down to election day, I think the Obama-Santorum gap is about right, but I think Romney would see a bigger bump in Michigan in November.

The auto bailout really helped in Michigan (and perhaps some neighboring states but that remains to be seen). Those who say Ford and it's employees would be against the bailout don't understand what a supply chain is. Even Toyota was for a bailout IIRC.

Guys, PPP is basically the only pollster on the "Santorum is a stronger candidate in the general" train. I remain skeptical.

Plus, his character is going be attacked in a very vicious fashion soon. Whatever glow is on him now will be gone before long (santorum glows lolz).

Nate Silver is on the "Santorum is possibly a stronger candidate" train, for what it's worth. I'm a little more skeptical than he is that working-class white voters that swung hard against Obama will be willing to swing back if Romney is the Republican candidate, but we'll see.

Mitt's strengths are that he isn't ideologically extreme and he can raise more money than Rick from big money donors. Rick definitely plays to the base much better. Mitt's base are no longer Republicans. If he was running 20 years ago, he'd be doing just fine.

Mittens will fire hard on Santorum, ensuring Obama an overwhelming victory in the general. It's quite convenient that Obama doesn't need to get his hands dirty or even spend a dime to destroy the GOP candidates.
