This isn't a seasonally adjusted number, of course. Did you bother reading the article you posted?

It's also worth noting that initial jobless claims hit a four-year low last week, and that this data's an outlier.

Gallup's numbers routinely don't match the official numbers when it comes to unemployment, if I'm remembering correctly.

Jobless claims are at their lowest point since 2008, so the Gallup poll means ether two things.

1. This is a complete outlier

2. That more people are looking for jobs which is causing an uptick in unemployment, which in the long -run is a good thing.

Nope. What this means is that the "official numbers" are nonsense and are manipulated to fool people who play on the internet in their mommy's basement.

You do realize the Gallup numbers aren't even seasonally adjusted?

Face it,  this poll is more accurate in your opinion because it fits the narrative that you wish to happen. Hell if Gallup was saying unemployment was at 7.9%, you would be arguing that they were horse sh**t.

This.

CaDan wants unemployment to spike up, for political reasons of course.

Yeah, if we see a larger rise in the people in the labor force than we do in unemployment, we'll know number 2 is the case.

I suspect it's a combination of number 2 and Christmas season people getting laid off.

Sorry to bump this, but I was reading the Bonddad blog earlier - which, incidentally, is an excellent site on the US economy & stock market that everyone should follow - and they made a salient point...

That apparently that huge new pool of unemployed Gallup found ...
... forgot to file for their unemployment benefits.

In other words, if Gallup's survey had been accurate we should have seen a surge of initial claims. And, in fact, this was proven by the worrying spike in jobless cla--- oh wait, they actual stayed at a four year low today, exceeding economists' expectations. Wink

Look, there's obviously valid areas of concern for the US economy - gas prices, anyone? - but this particular ray of gloomy sunshine, Dan, doesn't look like it's going to pan out. Sorry.

Yeah, if Jobless claims had spiked then the Gallup poll would have made much more sense. So I guess we can go with option one and that it is a complete outlier.

It's obvious that the biggest reason for the discrepancy is record long term UE/discouraged workers. Pretty sure Dan posted a link pointing out the gap there, actually. It's not like any of the naysayers and skeptics here are jerking off to the thought of being potentially getting in line for a check themselves. Or at least I'm certainly not.

It stayed at 8.3%, and the economy added 227,000 jobs today.  Gallup was wrong.

Hilarious! I guess Gallup's polling is as volatile on this as their approval tracker.

Their numbers also weren't seasonally adjusted.

Nope.

The "official number" is nothing but nonsense. Of course, the Democrats will choose to believe whatever it takes to justify their messiah worship of "THE ONE!"

Nope.

The "unofficial numbers" (Participation Rate, U6, unemployment claims) all improved in February. Of course, Cadan will choose to believe whatever it takes to justify his fanaticism of taking down "THE MUSLIM ANTICHRIST!"

lol what - in response to the Gallup number being wrong you post... the Gallup number? What?

EDIT: Dan - how come the >1.1 million people who've supposedly become unemployed in the last month haven't filed for unemployment benefits?
